For 24 Hours, Kelly Clarkson Was Scared For Her Life

If you know how petrifying cancer can be then this will hit close to home. Going to the doctor for a routine checkup isn’t that high on everyone’s list of things they love. Why? Because you may think you are perfectly fine but there is something in the back of your head that keeps you the slightest paranoid. For Kelly Clarkson, that paranoia turned into a reality in 2006.

It was the day of the 2006 Grammys and Kelly Clarkson had the heaviest mind in attendance. “Not many people know this … but I was told that morning that I had cancerous results for something,” she said. “I went the whole day crying. They redid my makeup four times because I was like, ‘Wow, so young.’ I was just completely freaking out.”

No one wants to be trembling with fear on one of the biggest days of their lives. Not only was Clarkson nominated, she was set to perform. That must have a nightmarish feeling, to say the least. Hope came in the form of her winning her first two Grammys for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

“Then when I won, I thought, ‘Oh, my God. This is like God giving me one more thing before something horrible happens,'” said Clarkson. From the sounds of things, Clarkson was going through it but the light at the end of the tunnel arrived the next day

What happened next is something that all cancer patients would wish could happen. The day after she won her Grammys and performed her hit song “Because of You” she had learned the diagnosis was just a mistake.

“I was like, ‘You completely ruined my entire [day],'” she laughed. “As a kid watching the Grammys, that was a big dream! It was kind of the worst/greatest day. And the next day was also the worst/greatest day because I wanted to punch someone.” And rightfully so, giving someone the scare of their life on a big day like that is quite ridiculous.

“I was like, ‘Who mixes up results? Why wouldn’t you test again?’ It was very much a roller coaster ride, that day, for me,” said Clarkson. “So, it’s kind of unfortunate, but a lot of the moments got stolen from that mishap. But hey, I didn’t have cancer!”

That is most likely one of the craziest 24 hours a human being can go through. Thinking that you have a life-threatening disease and winning an award you have been dreaming about since you were a kid has bittersweet written all over it.

It takes a certain level of professionalism for someone to stay committed after hearing that news but that is just what Clarkson did accepting her awards and giving a great performance. One can only guess how thankful for life Clarkson has been since that scare. And to those still fighting that battle and were not as fortunate as Clarkson, continue the fight because it can be defeated.
