Celebrities are just like us in that they have interests outside of work. But some of them are quite unexpected. Do you know what Johnny Depp likes to collect or what hobby David Arquette has? The answers will surprise you.
Did you know Mila Kunis is a closet nerd? In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Kunis talked about how she spend her free time playing “World of Warcraft” and described herself as being an avid gamer. Kunis’ gaming habit was so bad that she eventually had to quit so she could actually get things done.
Besides gaming and playing “World of Warcraft,” Kunis also attends Star Trek conventions and is a huge fan of the series. Kunis proves that you can have beauty and still pursue your nerdy interests while keeping your popularity in Hollywood. So don’t give up your weird interests, ladies!
David Arquette is best known for his roles in Scream and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Did you know he actually loves knitting? His grandmother actually taught him how to knit when he was young and has been on the cover of Celebrity Scarves 2: Hollywood Knits for Breast Cancer Research.
While this isn’t a strange hobby, is it very hard to picture Arquette sitting down to knit, yet it is one of his favorite hobbies. Knitting isn’t just for women anymore, and Arquette shows you can be manly and knit at the same time.
Claudia Schiffer is the biggest name in the modeling industry and came into the spotlight in the 1990s. At 45 years old, she is still making money off of her looks. So what is her secret hobby? She likes to collect bugs. It is really hard to picture this blonde model with her hands on little bugs, but that is what she spends her free time doing.
She has an insect collection and is apparently fascinated with spiders. She calls herself a bug enthusiast, and her collection definitely shows this. If you look closely at her clothing line you will see a spider in the logo because that is how much she likes bugs.
Simon Cowell is best known for his role on American Idol and for crushing the dreams of thousands of Hollywood hopefuls. Cowell has earned almost half a billion dollars through shows like The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent as well at American Idol, so you would think his hobby would reflect that.
Actually, he really just likes to climb trees. He is basically a little boy at heart. The hobby goes back to his childhood when he was bullied. Cowell escaped the bullies by climbing trees, so he keeps to his hobby this day. Kind of ironic, since he tends to be the bully on television.
Taylor Swift is one of the hottest and highest-paid entertainers at the moment. From starting out as a country singer and transitioning into the pop world, she is basically on top of the world right now. So what does she do with her downtime (when she can actually find some)? She likes to make snow globes.
Sometimes she will get some friends together and make a bunch of snow globes to give as Christmas gifts to friends and family. This seems like a very Taylor Swift thing to do, but we would totally do it with her!
It seems like some celebrities have weirder collection habits than others. Johnny Depp made his Hollywood debut in A Nightmare on Elm Street, but is most well-known for his role as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. While Depp tends to play odd, dark characters, you would expect his collection to reflect that, right? Well, he actually likes to collect Barbie dolls.
Yes, the same Barbie dolls that you played with when you were little. Apparently, the collection started when Depp used the dolls to help him get into character. Depp does allow his daughter to play with the dolls, so that makes it a little less weird.
Tom Hanks gives off that sophisticated vibe, especially because he plays roles like Robert Langdon in the DaVinci Code. It seems only fitting that a sophisticated man such as Hanks would have a hobby of collecting vintage manual typewriters. Not only does Hans collect these machines, but he types on them as well. He records his observations and thoughts on them.
Hanks has even given one of his typewriters to a fan as a thank you for a book of sketches the fan gave to him. The artist, Denise Esposito, handed her sketchbook of all the characters Hanks played over the years to his publicists. Hanks wanted to meet her and eventually gave her a typewriter.
Love him or hate him, Nicolas Cage has played a wide range of roles in Hollywood. He has even won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his performances. What could his hobby be? He loves collecting Superman memorabilia. In fact, not only does he love collecting, but he also is obsessed with the character. Cage has collectibles from the movies and comic books.
He also named his son after Superman, Kal-El, which is the real name of Superman. Unfortunately, Cage has never been able to play Superman. He had a chance in the 1990s but the movie never came to fruition.
Sandra Bullock is a very talented woman. She has played in movies such as Speed, The Heat, and Crash. She has also won numerous awards over the years for her performances. It is no surprise that she can also speak another language. Just what language is it? German.

Angelina Jolie started on the big screen in 1993. From there, she skyrocketed to one of the highest earning actresses of all times. She has played the famous role of Laura Croft in Laura Croft: Tomb Raider. In this role, she got to play with all types of weapons, but her obsession with weapons started long before this role. When she was young, she got her first dagger when she was just 11 or 12 years old.
She kept on collecting them as she grew older and says “It reminds you of history, and there’s just something beautiful about them and traditional.”
Kaley Cuoco got her start on the television show 8 Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter. From there, she went on to star on The Big Bang Theory, which has increased her fame exponentially. One of the hobbies she has kept true to is riding horses. Since she was 15 years old, she has been riding and competing in competitions. Now, she can be found at the local equestrian center practicing her skills and jumps.
A few years ago, Cuoco had an accident where she fell off her horse and her ankle got trampled in the process. For a moment, the doctors thought she might lose her foot. They were able to save it with some metal bars put in place of her bones.

One day before she was supposed to start working in a plastic surgeon’s office, she decided she didn’t want that life and went to Hollywood to try and act. A bold move that payed off.
Conan O’Brien is full of surprises when he hosts his shows, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Conan. One thing you probably didn’t know about him is that he tap dances. When he was young, he took tap-dancing lessons along with his other hobby of writing comedic plays. When Conan was young, he thought he needed to tap dance in order to be a successful comedian. His parents found him a teacher so he could follow his dream.
Eventually, Conan went to Harvard University, but he said he still struggled with insecurity, even after making it into the prestigious university. Comedy was his outlet there and he stuck with tap dancing throughout the years.
Jennifer Garner has many talents, one of which includes being a mom. When she was young she played the saxophone, and still remembers a few songs. In an interview, Jennifer said “My saxophone’s name was Sally the Sexy Saxophone, and I lost her. How do you lose a saxophone? My mom and I marvel. Where did she go? Who has Sally?” In high school, not only did she play the saxophone but she was in marching band as well.
In 2000, she had a brief performance on the Donny & Marie Show. We wouldn’t have pictured her playing the saxophone, but she does surprise us all the time.
Bob Barker was the host of The Price is Right for many years. While he always wanted us to spay and neuter our pets, he also had another (and surprising) hobby. Bob Barker’s hobby was karate, and he actually had a black belt. So who trained him? Well, Chuck Norris and his brother Aaron, who else?
In his autobiography, Barker remembers sparring with Norris and the result was four cracked ribs. Ouch! Barker said that was how he stayed in such great shape over the years, by practicing karate with Chuck Norris. Is there anything this man can’t do?
To play James Bond, you have to be “larger-than-life” in your private life, which is why Pierce Brosnan fits the role. One of his hobbies if fire eating. He originally started fire-eating when trying to sharpen up his acting skills.
In 1996, he had an accident that damaged his mouth. Brosnan said in an interview “The last time I did the fire-eating was on The Muppets. It was just after GoldenEye. They called up and they said, ‘Do you sing? Do you dance?’ I said, ‘No, not really. But I do a fire-eating act – well, I used to.’ They said, ‘Oh great! Wonderful!’”
Matthew Morrison is handsome, he can sing, and he can act. What else can he do? Deliver babies. That is right, this man can pretty much do it all. So how did he do this? His father is a midwife. In an interview he said “I was a senior in high school and it was supposedly take your kid to work day, I guess. [My dad] just kind of talked me through it. I don’t think the women really knew what was going on anyway.”
He delivered two babies that day. He has also been in the room during C-sections, which he described as “terrifying.”
Vin Diesel is best known for his role in the Fast and the Furious franchise. With his strong arms, tattoos, and dark characters, you would never guess there is a nerd behind those muscles. Vin Diesel’s game of choice is “Dungeons & Dragons,” which he has been playing for over 20 years. He even wrote the forward to the book named 30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons.
His player name is Melkor, which he supposedly has tattooed somewhere on his body. At one point, he tried starting up his own video game development called Tigon Studios. It really didn’t take off, but it shows just how much Vin Diesel is into fantasy role playing.
Stephen Colbert is a huge Lord of the Rings fan. Throughout his career, he has interviewed a dragon, sent Peter Jackson fan mail, had an entire week of The Colbert Report dedicated to The Hobbit, and cosplayed Bilbo, Legolas, and Gandolf. Colbert even had a cameo in The Hobbit during the Laketown scene. It is only for a second, but he is there if you look closely.
On The Late Show, Colbert took on Peter Jackson and James Franco on Lord of the Rings trivia. Guess who won? Stephen Colbert, of course. This man is seriously dedicated to the franchise.
Leonardo DiCaprio is another Hollywood actor who has played all types of roles. From funny to serious, this man can do pretty much anything. What would someone who can do anything collect? Star Wars figurines. That’s right. He has collected Star Wars figurines over the years and even kept them in their original packaging. He auctioned about 300 lots of them off in 2006 to benefit the Leonard DiCaprio Foundation.
The foundation is for environmental protection, which DiCaprio is a huge proponent of. One of the figurines in the auction went for $4,500. It was a first edition, rare vinyl Jawa figurine.
