Tippi Hedren is a fashion model and animal rights activist who got her start in the 1960s. She was particularly interested in the plight of African lions.

She had several big cats living in her house, but in 1983, she moved them to the Shambala Preserve which she founded herself.

Note the past tense. Justin Beiber HAD a pet monkey. in March 2013, he took his monkey to Germany even though everyone told him not to.

The monkey was seized at German customs. Justin had until May to file paperwork to get his monkey back, but he failed to do so. Now the monkey is in a zoo in Germany.

Frida Kahlo Had A Pet Deer

This is a photo of Frida Kahlo with her pet deer, Granzino. One of Kahlo’s most famous paintings is of her face on a wounded deer’s body.

Clearly, Frida saw herself in these fragile creatures. Her husband, Diego Rivera, shared her love for exotic pets.

Slash Has A Lot Of Snakes

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash is a real reptile enthusiast. At one point, Slash owned over eighty snakes. He’s been keeping snakes since he was eleven years old.

He’s been on the cover of Reptiles magazine, and he’s even shared his love of snakes with the one and only Betty White.

Grace Coolidge Had A Pet Raccoon

First Lady Grace Coolidge had a pet raccoon named Rebecca, which is the best name I’ve ever heard for a raccoon. In this photo she’s at a White House Easter Egg event.

Grace and her husband, President Calvin Coolidge, had many exotic pets including a wallaby, a bear, a Pygmy Hippo, and two lion cubs. They also had 10 dogs.

Meet Piggy Smalls, Ariana Grande’s little mini pig. Originally, Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson adopted Piggy Smalls together, but after they broke up, Ariana took full custody of him.

Before the breakup, Pete got Piggy Smalls’ name and portrait tattooed on his torso.

Kirstie Alley Has Lemurs

Kirstie Alley has a real passion for lemurs. She has a whole bunch of them. By the way, the cost of lemur upkeep is around fifty thousand dollars a year.

This is a picture of her actual lemur from her Instagram page. He doesn’t look very impressed.

Kristen Stewart Has A Wolf Dog

This is Jack, Kristen Stewart’s wolf-dog hybrid. During an interview with David Letterman in 2010, Stewart said, “I know he looks kind of scary, he’s a wolf. He’s really sweet, he, like, falls at my feet.”

I don’t think he looks that scary, but then again, he is a puppy in this photo.

Josephine Baker Had A Leopard

Josephine Baker was a French entertainer and activist. A picture of her wearing a faux banana skirt in the 1920s has basically become a symbol of the Jazz Age.

Oh, she also had a leopard named Chiquita. That’s a pretty fantastic name for a ferocious leopard.

Audrey Hepburn Had A Pet Fawn

Audrey Hepburn met Pippin the fawn on the set of Green Mansions in 1959. The animal trainer on set told Hepburn to take the fawn home with her so that they could get accustomed to being around each other.

Apparently, they spent so much time together that Pippin thought Hepburn was his mom.

Salvador Dali Had A Pet Anteater

If you think about it, an anteater really is the perfect surrealist pet. It looks like a mishmash of a bunch of other animals. This photo was taken in 1969 in Paris.

Dali was just out on the town taking his pet anteater for a walk (as you do).

Michael Jackson Had Bubbles

Remember Bubbles? Michael Jackson’s pet chimpanzee? These two were the best of friends and they were often photographed together. Jackson bought Bubbles from a Texas research facility in the 1980s.

After Michael Jackson died in 2009, Bubbles went to live at a primate sanctuary in Florida.

George Clooney Had A Pet Pig

Mini pigs are nice and all, but they don’t take up very much room. Meet “Max, the star,” a 300-pound potbellied pig who lived with People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for eighteen years.

Max passed away in 2006, but eighteen years is a good lifespan for a pig.

Tori Spelling Has A Pet Chicken

This is Coco, the Silkie bantam chicken. He belongs to Tori Spelling. Sometimes Coco sleeps in Tori’s bed, which is… interesting. This chicken is pretty cute, but I don’t know if I’d want to share a bed with him.

Tori refers to herself as “the chicken whisperer.”

Vanilla Ice Had A Pet Wallaroo

This is Bucky. He’s a wallaroo, which means he’s a cross between a wallaby and a kangaroo.

He belongs to Vanilla Ice because that makes sense (not really). Vanilla Ice also has a pet goat. His two pets actually escaped in 2004, but they were both eventually found safe and sound.

Paris Hilton Had A Pet Kinkajou

Paris Hilton has lived a rich and famous life from the day she was born. You probably remember her little brown chihuahua, but did you remember that she had a pet kinkajou named Baby Luv?

Baby Luv actually bit Paris back in 2006. That’s what happens when you keep wild animals as pets.

Mike Tyson Had Pet Tigers

Remember the movie The Hangover? Well, that bit about Mike Tyson was based on real-life events. Mike Tyson did actually have a pet tiger.

In fact, Mike Tyson had three pet tigers. Each tiger cost him around seventy thousand dollars. Eventually, Mike was unable to care for his tigers so he had to give them up.

Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban Have Alpacas

Nicole Kidman and her husband, Keith Urban, own four Alpacas which they keep at their home in Australia. Alpacas provide super warm wool, and they’re fun to play with.

If I had as much money as Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, I’d probably buy some alpacas too (and I’d hire someone to take care of them).

Elvis Presley Had A Pet Kangaroo

This is a photo of Elvis Presley with his pet kangaroo. Lee Gordon, Presley’s booking agent, gave him the kangaroo as a gift. Elvis later ended up donating his long-legged friend to the Memphis Zoo.

It’s hard work taking care of an exotic animal. Sometimes it’s better to leave it to the professionals.
