Just like anybody else in the world, sometimes celebrities say”I do” to the wrong person, which ends in heartache, a massive headache, and the loss of a whole bunch of money. That said, some celebrities are blessed to make money that we’d never dream of having. The only downside to that is when it comes to having kids. This means whoever has the most money and most time with the child is usually ordered to pay their ex-spouse huge sums of money in child support.
20 Biggest Child Support Payments
Here’s a list of twenty of the biggest child support payments of the rich and the famous.
Deion Sanders – $10,000 per month
Former Dallas Cowboys football player and NFL Hall of Fame member Deion Sanders got a pretty pricey deal when he divorced his wife of fourteen years, Pilar Biggers-Sanders. The two had three children: Shilo, Shelomi, and Shedeur. This resulted in a pretty penny owed from Deion.
In the end, he was ordered to pay his former spouse an estimated $10,000 a month in child support for their two sons and daughter. Originally, Sanders won primary custody of his two sons and Pilar was given custody of their daughter. After allegations of abuse came out, the judge reversed the order and gave custody of all three children to Pilar.
Russell Simmons – $40,000
Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons were one of those couples that everyone thought was going to make it. The two had a hit reality series Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane, and seemed to have a great relationship.
That said, their 17-year relationship came to an end when Kimora filed for divorce in 2008. The papers were finalized in 2009. The couple agreed that Kimora would receive a whopping $40,000 for their daughters Ming Lee and Aoki Lee Simmons until they turned 19. This is just a drop in the bucket for Russell Simmons, as his net worth is an estimated $325 million.
Bow Wow – $4,000 a month and back payments
For a while, it seemed like Bow Wow had faded into obscurity from his successful career as a 90s childhood star, but he signed a pretty sweet deal with BET in the new millennium.
So, when he was fighting over child support with baby mama Joie Chavis, his deal with BET became the center of the battle. Bow Wow, whose real name is Shad Moss, withheld the amount of money he was making at the time from the judge. At the time of the court proceedings, Bow Wow was named host of the BET show 106 & Park, so the rapper turned actor had to pay his baby momma $11,500 in back child support, plus $4,000 a month in the end.
Eddie Murphy – $59,000 a month
Funny man Eddie Murphy has got some serious dough, but he also has a ton of kids to go with that dough. The comedian has nine children, but it was the birth of his daughter with Spice Girl Mel B that had everyone talking.
Eddie Murphy dated Mel B for a short period of time, and subsequently denied the child was his when Mel B was pregnant, despite the singer being very open about who her daughter’s father was. Their daughter was welcomed on the day of Eddie’s birthday in 2007. Murphy eventually took a DNA test and it was confirmed that he was the father. He was ordered to pay an estimated $59k a month which included Brown’s expenses during her pregnancy.
Mick Jagger – $14,000 per kid?
Mick Jagger is still making sweet, sweet music as the lead frontman of the rock band Rolling Stones. At 73-years-old he’s making hits and he’s making kids! Unfortunately for Jagger, his relationships don’t last, which means he’s shelling out a ton of money for child support.
While he has several child support deals, it’s the deal he made for Melanie Hamrick, the 29-year-old mother to his eighth child, that had heads rolling. Not only did he offer to pay $14,000 a month, but he also offered to purchase a multi-million dollar home in The States for Hamrick.
Charlie Sheen – $55,000 a month per baby mama
Charlie Sheen was making mega bucks when he was the star of the hit CBS show Two And A Half Men. So much so, that when he was fired from the show for his erratic behavior, he still had major leverage in Hollywood to create his own show for a rival network.
Anger Management, a sitcom with another sizable salary, served as his Men follow-up on FX. That means his kids get a hefty sum of that money. Daughters Lola and Sam’s mother Denise Richards gets an estimated $55,000 a month, while Brooke Mueller receives $55,000 per month for twin boys Bob and Max. At one point, Sheen was able to get Mueller’s child support reduced to $20,000 when she lost custody, but the judge ordered Sheen to pay the original amount once Mueller had Bob and Max under her care again.
Sean Diddy Combs – $20,000 per month per baby mama
Rapper, producer, and hip-hop mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs may rely on his old hits to stay relevant in the music world, but that doesn’t mean he makes pennies. These days, he has his hand in every medium you can think of — he even has his own television network!
With a net worth of $750 million, which makes him a top entertainer on Forbes list year after year, Combs has to pay a pretty penny in child support for his children. The father of six children pays Kim Porter an estimated $20k a month so she can support their twin daughters D’Lila Star and Jessie James. His other high school sweetheart, Misa Hylton-Brim, receives $20k a month for their son Justin.
Ludacris – $35,000
Rapper and actor Ludacris is a huge part of the Fast and Furious franchise, one of the most profitable franchises in the world with a box office in excess of $3.9 billion. It’s safe to say that Ludacris is resting easy money wise, but in terms of baby mama drama, that’s a whole other story.
The rapper and actor was ordered to pay over $35k to ex Tamika Fuller for their daughter Cai Bella. For two years, the pair went back and forth over their daughter, and then in a turn of events, Luda won custody of his daughter years later, and was awarded $2k a month in child support despite Fuller’s $25 million net worth.
Britney Spears – $25,000 a month
In terms of success, no one is going to argue that Britney Spears isn’t one of the most profitable acts in the business. That said, she isn’t exactly the best at keeping relationships.
After the singer had a mental breakdown, which ended in her father gaining conservatorship over her, Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline stepped up and took care of their sons Jaden and Preston. Due to having the boys for the majority of the time, and being virtually out of work, the former backup dancer was awarded $20k a month for their children. After her mental breakdown became public, he was awarded an additional $5k a month.
Nas – $40,000
Rapper Nas is known as one of the greatest of all rappers of all time, so it’s not a surprise to find out that he makes some cheddar off of his music. Just because Nas is one of the best in the game doesn’t mean his life is without complications.
Nas and singer Kelis hit the skids and announced that they were getting divorced, despite Kelis being pregnant with his son. More drama ensued when Nas publicly announced at a concert that he was about to be a father, which was against Kelis’ wishes. The two were embroiled in a nasty court battle over child support for years. In the end Nas was ordered to pay $40k a month in child support to the “Milkshake” singer.
Mel Gibson – A Lot.
Mel Gibson had one of the longest relationships in Hollywood. The rising star met Robyn Moore in the late 70s and the two stayed together for 26 years before separating for good.
During their marriage, they produced one daughter and six sons. Despite his alcoholism getting the best of him, the split seemed pretty amicable in comparison to his controversial split from Oksana Grigorieva. The two were only married for a year, but had a daughter named Luca, who became the center of a nasty custody battle. Eventually, Gibson was ordered to pay one of the biggest child support payments in history, shelling out $400 million.
Donald Trump – $950,000 to two wives
Before he was President of the United States, Donald Trump was an arguably successful business mogul. He had a six-year marriage to actress and television personality Marla Maples and wound up producing child Tiffany Maples, now 23.
The two split and came to an agreement with Trump paying $300k in child support to Maples. That’s not the only person the 45th president has had to pay child support to. He also shelled out $650k to Ivana, who he was married to for two decades before he took up with Marla Maples. The couple had three children together, Donald Jr, Eric, and Ivanka.
Ronald Perelman – $12,000 a month
He may not be a recognizable name in terms of scoring headlines for his life in the pages of Us Weekly, but billionaire Ronald Perelman, head of Revlon, had to pay out big to his ex-wife Patricia Duff after they ended their short-lived marriage in 1996.
The two were only married for a year, but produced child Caleigh right before they were hitched. It wasn’t meant to be, so the couple decided to call it quits, but that doesn’t mean they were able to settle child custody right away. It took them three years until they agreed on an amount. In the end, Perelman paid $12k a month so Duff could care for their child.
Michael Strahan – $15 million settlement, $18,000 a month
Giants footballer and former Live! co-host Michael Strahan went through a very public divorce in 2006 with his wife Jean Muggli. The two had twin daughters Sophia and Isabella, which meant Strahan had to pay child support. Even though this was at the tail end of his career as a football player, he wasn’t exactly getting off easy.
He was ordered to pay Muggli $18k a month in child support for their two daughters and had to pay an additional $15 million in their settlement. So what is Muggli doing with all of that money? Well, at the time, she claimed that her daughters have very expensive taste, which included pricey purses, photo shoots, sign language classes, and the list went on.
Paul McCartney – $48 million settlement, $70,000 a year
In the grand scheme of things, Paul McCartney doesn’t have to pay too much in child support, once you figure in his net worth. The Beatles musician is worth a whopping 1.2 billion dollars thanks to his successful five-decade career as a musician.
Despite having major bank, he only had to pay ex-wife Heather Mills $48 million in their divorce settlement. When it came to child support for their then 11-year-old daughter Beatrice, he paid $70k a year, which helped finance private flights, clothing, and other lifestyle choices. Heather and Paul were married for a short six years in comparison to Paul’s first marriage to Linda Eastman, which lasted almost three decades, until the activist died of cancer in 1998.
Halle Berry – $16,000 a month
Here’s an unusual case in Hollywood that you don’t often hear. Usually, when someone gets a divorce or splits from their partner, it’s the woman who receives the money, as they are usually the ones that get primary custody.
Although actress Halle Berry received primary custody of her daughter Nahla, she still had to pay her partner of five years, Gabriel Aubry, a large sum. Odds are Berry was making more money than the model. She was ordered to pay $16k a month to Aubry in child support. The only consolation is that the two agreed to split the cost for school for their daughter.
50 Cent – $25,000 a month
Before he was a famous rapper and actor, 50 Cent became a father to son Marquise Jackson. His then-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins gave birth to Marquise in 1996, but the couple didn’t last long. Fortunately, 50 cents isn’t exactly the kind of cash the rapper makes these days.
Despite claiming bankruptcy, in one year alone 50 Cent made $150 million. As a result of his success, the court ordered 50, real name Curtis Jackson, to pay his baby momma $25k a month. Throughout the years his son, Marquise, has publicly accused him of not being in his life via Instagram. 50 Cent has publicly said that he’s counting down the days until he no longer has to send child support.
Matthew Knowles – $225,000 and more
Matthew Knowles might be known for being the man behind Destiny’s Child and Beyoncé’s subsequent solo career, but Beyoncé’s father is also a dad to another child. In 2009, Knowles had an affair with Taqoya Branscomb.
When she became pregnant, Knowles gave the baby mama $225k in order to avoid court proceedings for child support. Their daughter was born in 2010 but he had nothing to do with her life, and in 2014, Branscomb sued him. Eventually, Knowles was ordered to pay $70k in back child support with regular child support payments of $1,400 a month. It’s said that he also pays for health insurance for their child.
François-Henri Pinault – $46,000 a month
When you’re a CEO of a top luxury company like François-Henri Pinault, you make baller money. Unfortunately for Francois, there’s a price to pay. Before marrying actress Salma Hayek, he was involved in a minor fling with model Linda Evangelista back in 2005.
The fling resulted in a child for the Kering CEO, and years later Pinault was ordered to pay $46k a month in child support, which includes 24-hour nanny services, drivers, and other luxurious lifestyle choices the regular person would only dream of having. At the end of the day, he still gets to come home to Salma Hayek, so we bet he isn’t crying over the money too much.
Kirk Kerkorian – $100,000 a month for a child who isn’t his!
Here’s an interesting one — Kirk Kerkorian, the former CEO of Tracind Corporation, is paying child support for a child who isn’t biologically his. Kerkorian had a very short marriage (28 days, to be exact) to tennis player Lisa Bonder.
The marriage was so short and the court proceedings were so controversial that it was considered one of the most high-profile celebrity split-ups of all time. At the time of the court proceedings, Kerkorian didn’t believe that he was the father, and accused Steven Bing, Bonder’s ex-boyfriend of being the child’s real father. To prove this, Kerkorian hired someone to snatch dental floss from Bing’s trash. Despite Bing being the child’s biological father, Kerkorian was ordered to pay $100k a month until the child turns 19.
Brendan Fraser – $75,000 a month
You don’t really hear a lot about Brendan Fraser these days, but the actor was pretty big in the 90s and 2000s. He made enough money that when he split up Afton Smith, his wife of almost a decade, he had to pay quite a bit in child support.
The former A-list actor has three children with his former wife. They divorced in 2007 and by 2013, Fraser was petitioning the courts to reduce his alimony payments which came to a whopping $75,000 per month—nearly $1 million per year! His ex-wife wasn’t having it, though, and accused Fraser of hiding assets.
Anne Heche – $15,000 a month
Ann Heche has made headlines before for her erratic behavior, and it is this that made her ex husband, Coleman Laffoon, request primary support of the couple’s son, Homer. Their marriage ended after five and a half years, and Laffoon said that his ex-wife displayed “bizarre and delusional behavior for which she reuses to seek professional help.”
Heche later went to the court saying that she could no longer afford to pay child support as her TV show, Men in Trees had been cancelled and she had less than $35,000 in the bank. Their bitter divorce took quite a toll on the actress’ assets.
Tom Cruise – $33,000 a month
To some people, $33,000 a month is a lot of money. To people like Tom Cruise, who is worth an estimated $250 million, that’s just petty change. He and ex wife Katie Holmes were once an A-list power couple but, as is the case with most Hollywood marriages, their happiness was short lived.
The Scientologist was ordered to pay $33,000 a month in child support for his daughter, Suri Holmes. His financial obligation to his daughter ends once she turns 18. Considering just how much money Tom Cruise is worth, it looks like the actor got off pretty easy.
Val Kilmer – $27,500 a month
The Batman Forever star ended his marriage to his wife, Joanne Whalley, in 1997. The actor may have a lot of money in the bank, but it seems that he had quite a bit of trouble making his child support payments; in 2011, his ex-wife had a lien put against Val Kilmer’s property after claiming that he had fallen behind in payments.
The actor was forced to sell his ranch in New Mexico to make the payments for his children. It looks like Ms. Whalley knows what is do to their two children and will do what it takes to make sure that they get it!
Dennis Rodman – $3,500 a month
This might not seem like a lot of money considering that the basketball star has made millions throughout his career, but Dennis Rodman’s 2012 divorce fro Michelle Rodman was not his first one; he was previously married to Annie Bakes and then model Carmen Electra.
Rodman has also had quite a bit of trouble with the law and with alcohol addiction, all of which has had a negative impact on his finances. According to his financial adviser, Rodman’s alcoholism makes it difficult for him to get work, so $3,500 is actually a considerable sum of money for the athlete to pay each month.
Stevie Wonder – $25,000 a month
Fame can be hard, especially when it costs you hundreds of thousands of dollars a year! Music star Stevie Wonder is one of the most iconic musicians to have lived, but even he cannot escape paying child support. The celeb has nine children with five different women.
After splitting from his second wife, Kai Millard, he was ordered to pay a whopping $25,000 per month for the couple’s two children. The younger son was born in 2005, so Stevie can be expecting to dish out that money for a few more years until his son turns 18.
Terrell Owens – $45,000 a month
It doesn’t seem possible to go broke after making an estimated $80 million playing in the NFL, but that is what happened to Terrell Owens. His child support payments probably had something to do with it; the former football player has four children with four different women.
In 2011, Owens asked the court to reduce his child support payments. The following year, he was held in contempt of court for falling behind on his payments and was required to complete community service at a Goodwill in Los Angeles. That’s quite a downfall for someone who once had millions of dollars in the bank.
Levi Johnston – $1,750 a month
Former Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, attracted headlines in
2008 when her teenage daughter, Bristol Palin, became pregnant. The pregnancy was controversial as her mother was campaigning for the vice presidency. Bristol got engaged to her boyfriend, but the relationship was rocky.
Bristol’s beau fell behind in child support payments, at one point owing his baby’s mother $38,000 in child support. To make things even worse, after failing to pay child support for nearly two years, Levi spent more than $1 million on boats, four-wheelers, and guns. Bristol ended up leaving Levi Johnston and really, who can blame her?
Allen Iverson – $8,000 a month
Allen Iverson is paying his ex-wife, Tawanna, money each month on top of a $3 million divorce settlement. The couple had a rocky on-and-off relationship, reconciling after Tawanna first filed for divorce. However, after Iverson failed to pay child support, she left him again.
The couple have been embroiled in legal battles in 2013 since Iverson owed Tawanna so much in child support. He was supposed to pay $8,000 a month but wasn’t paying it, forcing Tawanna to demand he put money in a trust fund for the five kids they have together.
Bobby Brown – $5,000 a month (estimated)
In 2004, Bobby Brown was sentenced to three months in prison for failing to pay three months of child support to his ex, Kim Ward. The judge suspended the sentence after he paid $15,000. Just a few years later, in 2007, he owed Kim another $20,000 in child support and court fees and spent three days in jail.
He was only released after a radio station in Washington D.C. agreed to pay the missing money in exchange for Bobby Brown working at the station for one week. His difficulties in making payments were the result of Bobby Brown not having released any albums for several years.
Martin Brodeur – $132,000 a year
The New Jersey Devils goalie had quite the bitter divorce and he is paying for it. The athlete was ordered to pay his ex-wife half a million a year in alimony from 2009 until 2020, plus a monthly child support payment.
Martin Brodeur has to pay $11,000 each month in child support per child for a whopping total of $132,000 a year. He also has to pay for any costs which the family may incur while living in the family home. Professional athletes may make a lot of money but that means they have to pay a lot of money when getting a divorce.
Ted Danson – $30 million lump sum
Cheers star Ted Danson paid a huge divorce settlement to his second wife, Cassandra “Casey” Coates with whom he had two children. The two seemed to have a good relationship; Ted nursed her through a stroke she suffered while giving birth to their first child. They later adopted another daughter.
The couple divorced in 1993, however, after Danson had a highly publicized affair with Whoopi Goldberg. The court ruled that Ted Danson had to pay his former wife $30 million to cover spousal support, child support, and emotional damages, making it one of the most expensive divorces Hollywood had ever seen.
Jim Nantz – $916,000 a year
CBS sportscaster went through a bitter divorce that cost him quite a bit of money. His 2009 divorce from his wife of 26 years, Ann-Lorraine “Lorrie” Carlsen is costing him nearly $1 million a year out of the $7 million per year Nantz earns.
The $916,000 a year he pays counts as both child support and alimony. Before the divorce was finalized, Nantz admitted that he was having an affair with a 29 year old woman. He has since remarried and had two children with his new wife, although he is still paying his first wife a considerable sum of money.
Evander Holyfield – At least $500,000 in unpaid support
It’s uncertain just how much Evander Holyfield has to pay each month in child support, but it’s definite that it is a lot of money considering that he has a dozen children with six women. The boxer has earned an estimated $513 million through his career, but ended up broke in spite of it.
In 2012, Holyfield was held in contempt of court as he owed one of his children, Emani, more than $500,000 in unpaid child support. The boxer has had more than his share of financial difficulties. In 2008, his $10 million estate in Atlanta was foreclosed on. One of his former partners, Toi Irvin, sued him for failing to pay the $3,000 he is ordered to pay in child support for their child.
Jon Gosselin – $22,000 a month
The former co-star of Jon & Kate Plus 8 got into quite a lot of trouble after failing to pay the $22,000 he was ordered to pay in child support for his eight children as part of his divorce settlement.
According to Jon, he couldn’t afford to pay his rent along with the child support and chose to pay for his rent. The reality star said, “What do I do — pay child support or rent? I need to support my kids, but I could lose my house, and I need my home to continue to have custody.” Tough break, Jon.
Ed Furlong – At least $15,000 in unpaid support
The star of Terminator 2 has is quite troubled. He had a nasty split with his wife, Rachael Kneeland, and was arrested in 2011 after violating the restraining order she had taken out against him. According to the restraining order, Ed Furlong was supposed to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from his ex wife.
At the time of his arrest, he was a month behind in child support payments because, despite a relatively successful career, he was “completely broke.” Later that year he got into more trouble as he was found to owe $15,000 in unpaid child support.
Jermaine Dupri – $2,500 a month
In 2011, rapper and producer Jermaine Dupri tried to get out of paying child support payments to his ex, Sarai Jones, claiming that he was not the father of their seven month old baby girl. A simple paternity test revealed that he was, in fact, the father, and he was ordered to pay $7,500 in back child support on top of an additional $2,500 per month.
Dupri was undergoing financial hardships at the time and claimed to be unable to make the child support payments. Sarai Jones was not buying his excuses, however, and sued Jermaine Dupri for the money.
Marc Anthony – $26,800 a month
The Latin music sensation seems to have a fortune, at least based on his child support payments! He has to pay his ex-wife, Dayanara Torres, $26,800 per month in child support. On top of that astronomical sum, he also has to pay $12,000 per month for travel expenses.
The couple had two children together. Fortunately, he doesn’t have to pay money to his other ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, who is the mother of his twins, Emme and Max. It is reported that neither one of the music stars pays anything in child support as neither one needs it.
DMX – $10,000 a month
Rapper DMX (whose real name is Earl Simmons) has gotten into a lot of trouble for failing to pay the $10,000 a month he owes his ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, in child support for their four children. It isn’t too surprising that he might have some financial difficulties as the celeb reportedly has fathered 15 children with several women. In 2015, he was arrested for paying Simmons child support.
This came just a few months after being arrested on multiple warrants, one of which was for $400,000 the rapper owed in back taxes. The $10,000 he is supposed to pay Tashera Simmons a month is likely just a fraction of what he pays when you factor in his other children.
Flavor Flav – At least $1,200 a month
Flavor Flav faced a six month jail sentence back in 2012 for failing to pay his ex, Angie Parker, more than $111,000 in unpaid child support. It is uncertain how much he is supposed to pay per month, but considering that Angie is the mother of three of his seven children, the Public Enemy rapper likely has to pay quite a lot of money.
Flavor Flav avoided the jail time he was facing by paying Angie Parker $25,000 up front and then adding on an additional $1,200 per month in his monthly child supports to the mother of his children.
