HBO Max Lands ‘Big Bang Theory’ in Massive Deal

The Big Bang Theory may have had its series finale earlier this year, but the comedy sitcom isn't disappearing forever. HBO Max has acquired the domestic streaming rights for all 12 seasons of the hit series.

The record-setting five-year deal is worth more than $1 billion, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It also extends its syndication deal with TBS as part of the deal with Warner Bros. Television. This means the comedy will remain on TBS through 2028.

"Few shows define a generation like 'The Big Bang Theory.' We're thrilled that HBO Max will be the exclusive streaming home for this comedy juggernaut," says Robert Greenblatt, chairman at WarnerMedia. "It's one of the biggest shows on broadcast television of the last decade, and the fact that we get to bring it to a streaming platform for the first time in the U.S. is a coup for our new offering."

HBO Max also recently paid $425 million for the streaming rights to Friends, taking it off of competitor Netflix.

Just as I'm sure you've always wanted, you'll be able to go straight from watching lighthearted Big Bang Theory to an intense episode of Game of Thrones when HBO's streaming service launches in spring 2020.
