Taylor Swift fans have a love-hate relationship with her. You may like her music, but you hate what she stands for, or vice versa. Whether you think her music is played out or are sick of seeing her girl squad, you can agree there are several reasons that we love to hate Taylor Swift.
Since hitting the airwaves in 2006, Swift has risen to success and gained a mass following of fans – some of whom have lost interest in her sugar pop sound and others who are beyond devoted. Whatever camp you fall into, you surely fall into one group or another for each of these following reasons. Here are the main issues we have with Taylor Swift.
Her Music Is Overplayed
If you’ve heard “Bad Blood” once, you’ve heard it a thousand times. You may have started out a fan of Taylor Swift in the beginning, but once her music hit airwaves like a freight train, enough was enough. You can only “Shake It Off” so much before you’re ready to shake her.

You’re Sick Of The Rift Between Her And Kanye
You may have felt a little sorry for Taylor Swift when Kanye accosted her on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards, proclaiming that Beyoncé had the best video of the year. Seven years have passed and the feud is as strong as ever, with the latest over whether or not she gave permission to Kanye to mention her in a song.
Her Girl Squad Is Annoying
Taylor’s all for girl power, with a whole squad of girlfriends dedicated to the cause. They appear in videos together, attend events together and pretty much just show off together. Doesn’t the girl want a moment of peace? It’s good to stand up for women’s rights but the girl squad takes it to whole new level.
Next, learn about one of Taylor Swift’s bad habits.
How Many Boyfriends Is She Going To Have?
It seems like every week we hear about a new love of Taylor Swift’s. From John Mayer to Calvin Harris to Tom Hiddelston, the number of boyfriends she’s had is staggering. Kind of makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Did you forget about Harry Styles and Jake Gyllenhaal? There are so many, how can anyone keep track anymore?!
Every Song Is About One Of Her Breakups
It seems like the only way Taylor Swift can get a hit is if she writes the song about one of her breakups. We all know that “Dear John” is about John Mayer and obviously “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is about a breakup. Could it be another John Mayer song, or is it about Taylor Lautner, or maybe Jake Gyllenhaal? In either case, it can get a little depressing.

She Took All Her Music Off Spotify
If you like Taylor Swift’s music you were probably crushed when she demanded it be taken off Spotify. Nothing like disappointing your fans! They only want an opportunity to hear her every chance they can get. Taylor’s worried about not getting paid for her music from Spotify. Do you really think she needs it?
Her 1989 Songs Aren’t On YouTube
Seems like you can find pretty much every music video ever made on YouTube, except if it’s from Taylor Swift’s “1989” album. Her company goes out of its way to block any of her videos on the site – even making a couple take down their wedding video that featured one of her songs. Talk about petty.
Stay tuned to find out why Taylor’s fans are mad over iTunes.
She Jacked The Price Up On Her Album On iTunes
If you want Taylor Swift’s music you will have to pay for it – at least a little bit more. The price of her 1989 album is more than the average price of an album on iTunes, making you wonder how much access she wants to provide to her fans with her music. This will certainly turn some fans away.
She Seems Obsessed With Making Money
With everything Taylor Swift does to stop the free distribution of her music, one would wonder if she is so obsessed with money that she can’t give anything away for free to the fans who love her. Some fans can’t afford the fees to listen to her songs and will most likely be turned off by her money-first attitude.
Next, we look at what Taylor Swift’s song “Bad Blood” really means.
She Has Bad Blood With Katy Perry
Another feud, rumored to be the subject of her “Bad Blood” song, is with Katy Perry. The two singers got into it over some dancers that Katy signed to her tour who were already dancing with Taylor’s tour. Taylor went on to dis Katy in interviews and Katy fired back through Twitter – where the two still aren’t getting along today.
She Lacks Diversity In Her Videos And Friendships
While Taylor made a video showcasing Africa, there wasn’t a single person of color featured in the whole video, which begs the question, “where is the diversity?” Her group of friends are also almost all white, adding fuel to the fire. For someone who promotes women’s rights, you would think she’d be keen to show some diversity.

She Got Into It With Nicki Minaj
Under the impression that some of Nicki Minaj’s tweets about not being nominated for Video of the Year at the MTV Music Awards were directed at her, Taylor tried to smooth things over. So she shot off some pathetic return-tweets to the Nicki, which started a firestorm about diversity in the music industry and the portrayal of women in entertainment.
She Came From A Life Of Privilege
Though she claims to be an underdog, Taylor Swift’s childhood was far from the rough upbringing she claims to have had. She was given a brand-new Lexus convertible on her 16th birthday. Doesn’t sound like times were tough enough to warrant the claim of underdog status. She constantly tells us that she had to overcome a lot in her life to make it. Really?

Her Songs Get Stuck In Your Head
With those catchy lyrics and choruses, it’s hard not to get a Taylor Swift song stuck in your head for the whole day. As annoying as that can be, it attests to her popularity and success. While a little bit of “Shake It Off” will probably drive you crazy over the course of a day, you can rest assured that the song wasn’t written about you unless, of course, you dated her.
She’s Crazy About Cats
Taylor Swift is constantly posting pictures of her cats, which she has named after characters on TV. One is Meredith Grey, after a character on “Grey’s Anatomy” and another is Olivia Benson after Mariska Hargitay’s character on “Law & Order: SVU.” Her closeness with her cats borders on crazy cat lady status.
You’ll relate to the next one, as you’ve seen it over and over with Ms. Swift.
She’s Always Awkwardly Dancing In The Audience
At every award show there is a token camera pan to Taylor Swift dancing to whichever musician is performing. The girl has moves like no other and isn’t afraid to show them. You can always count on her to be dancing and singing along to whoever is performing, making you wonder if it is for the attention of the camera.
Her Voice Is Mediocre
While Taylor Swift’s popularity can’t be denied, you CAN argue that her voice isn’t one of the greatest of all times. What gets fans loving her songs is the catchy tunes, not her beautiful singing voice. Overall her voice is only mediocre and nothing to write home about or deserving of all the awards she has won.
Rumor Has It She Uses Auto-Tune
It’s not like Taylor Swift is the only artist to do it, but rumor has it that she uses Auto-Tune to keep her voice in check in the studio and at her concerts. Fans have complained that she does this, but let’s face it — so do most of the musicians out there today. Very rarely are you listening to a singer’s pure voice, so why should Taylor Swift be any different?
She Is Suing Etsy Fans
As nice as Taylor Swift can be, she can be pretty petty too. She recently took some fans on Etsy to court over trademark violations. The fans produced handmade crafts such as dolls, candles, and nail decals that featured song lyrics and Swift’s likeness and sold them through the online retailer. Apparently Taylor Swift has a lot of time on her hands to come down on groups of fans over homemade merchandise.
She’s Trademarked Catch Phrases
Even more annoying are the catchphrases that Taylor Swift has trademarked that appear in her songs. She’s trademarked “This Sick Beat,” “Cause We Never Go Out of Style,” “Nice to meet you, where you been,” and “Party Like It’s 1989.” It’s especially irritating that she’s trademarked her initials. Who DOES that?
