Tony Hendra is an English satirist, actor, and writer who played band manager Ian Faith in the film This Is Spinal Tap. In his memoir, Father Joe, Hendra admits that he attempted suicide the night before the first day of filming. He says that the joy he experienced while making the film played a major role in his recovery from depression.

In 2012, Hendra spoke about his struggle with depression and how Spinal Tap helped him at The Moth, a non-profit group based in New York City dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling.
