Netflix Will Be the Home for Three New Dave Chappelle Specials

Well, that didn’t take long. Fresh off the heels of a well-received return to television while hosting a recent episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’, Dave Chappelle is now gearing up for a full-fledged comeback. Netflix has signed on to air three new comedy specials featuring the star comedian, who appears ready to return to the national spotlight. The new TV comedy specials will be Chappelle’s first in 10 years. The last being 2005’s ‘Dave Chappelle’s Block Party’.

Though there are no dates announced for when the specials will air, Netflix announced they will work with Chappelle on a brand new original special and also release two from his own personal vault next year.

Chappelle’s return to television will be highly anticipated, especially by fans that have been itching for more from the comedian ever since he abruptly walked away during season 3 of his highly acclaimed sketch comedy show ‘Chappelle Show’. He also walked away from a huge multi-million dollar contract from Comedy Central, which prompted family and friends to become worried about the star’s mental health. The new partnership with Netflix signals a new start for Chappelle and if his appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ is any indication, he is already back to form.

Chappelle hit mainstream fame with the 1998 breakout comedy movie ‘Half Baked’ which also starred regular ‘Chappelle Show’ cast members Jim Breuer and Guillermo Diaz. The movie about four stoner friends has served as a blueprint for much of Chappelle’s stand-up and sketches.

If this goes well, maybe a return to sketch comedy could be in the future.
