Wrestlemania! Celebrities Who Got Into The Ring

As a celebrity-obsessed culture, we are completely fascinated by pretty much anything they do, and this includes showing up at wrestling matches. If you grew up religiously watching wrestling on TV, you may remember these riveting (and awkward) celebrity appearances. So without further ado, here are some of the most unforgettable celebrity appearances at pro wrestling events.

Chuck Norris

It doesn’t get any better than Chuck Norris. He acted as an incomparable “enforcer” for the WWF. It is pretty easy to seeChuck Norris as an appropriate celebrity for the WWF— he has such a widespread fan base, even as a B-list action star and popular martial arts expert.

Walker, Texas Ranger

In the end,The Undertaker picked up the victory, and fans of Chuck Norris seemed to be a bit surprised by Norris’ appearance; he was announced by his real name, and came to ringside acting just like his Walker, Texas Ranger character. His character would ensure justice was served but Norris kind of just walked around with a blank expression on his face.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas

What time is it? WrestleMania time! And why was the biggest heartthrob of the ’90s was a celebrity guest at WrestleMania 11? Considering JTT’s demographic at the time was teen girls, it’s really hard to say why he landed a spot on this wrestling show! Maybe he was a fan personally.

One of the first things fans notice about Wrestlemania 6 is that its intro recalls moments from every Wrestlemania to date, but strangely, none of those moments have anything to do with wrestling. Maybe that’s why JTT is there! Now it all makes sense! Jonathan Taylor Thomas seems a bit out of place here but he ended up looking pretty cozy with The Undertaker.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi

You may know Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi from her role on the popular MTV reality show Jersey Shore but she got the opportunity to show off her stuff at WrestleMania 27. It started on Raw when Snooki slapped Vicki Guerrero backstage after words were exchanged, which was all part of an act, of course.

To settle their “beef,” a mixed tag team match was set up for WrestleMania 27 with John Morrison, Stratus, and Snooki taking on Dolph Ziggler and LayCool. This four foot nine-inch little powerhouse back flipped into a six-person tag match, and majorly kicked butt! Who would have thought Snooki would have it in her?

Mr. T Teams Up With Hulk Hogan

Mr. T and Hulk Hogan were so famous in the 1980s, especially amongst adolescent boys, so it only makes sense that they team up for their appearance in the ring! “Rowdy” Roddy Piper fired up the audience, and his allegedly genuine bad blood with Mr. T added extradrama to the first WrestleMania’s main event.

Mr. T and the Hulk

In the end of this match, the good guys won – good guys being Hulk Hogan and Mr. T, of course! One very notable detail from this event was the co-referee, Muhammad Ali, the guest ring announcer Yankees manager Billy Martin! The dual star power of the Hulkster and Mr. T. helped push viewership.

Kim Kardashian

You may be asking yourself, what in the world would Kim Kardashian be doing in a wrestling ring? She made her appearance before she really hit reality show fame with Keeping Up With The Kardashians so this appearance was due to her fame from her sex tape. Not especially riveting to most fans of wrestling!

Kim K

A Fresh-faced Kim Kardashian didn’t do much during her stint on WrestleMania 24, which isn’t entirely surprising because wrestling doesn’t seem like anything related to her expertise, but she did step into the ring, and that has to count for something. Her quick appearance is generally forgotten by people who watched WrestleMania.

Aretha Franklin

Can you believe the Queen of Soul serenaded 93,000 fans in Toronto to kick off WrestleMania 3? An undeniable icon like Aretha sang “America the Beautiful,” which was a special moment. Needless to say,she nailed it! And that comes as no surprise. The performance became an instant classic.

Queen of Soul

She did not step into the ring from a wrestling performance standpoint but fans will always have the image of her behind the piano, surrounded by the large crowd. There have been several musical performances but Aretha has the distinction of having performed twice when she returned for WrestleMania 23.

Jon Stewart

After Seth Rollins dissed Daily Show host Jon Stewart, he decided to make an appearance on SummerSlam. This was his first majorgig since resigning his chair at The Daily Show in 2015. His longtime hosting gig on Comedy Central’s Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning talk/news satire program has garnered him quite the following.

Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart

Stewart actually interjected himself into the champion versus champion match betweenWorld title-holder Seth Rollins and U.S. champ John Cena. With the referee knocked out, Stewart entered into the ring. and Stewart nailed Cena with the chair! This allowed Rollins to then use the chair for his Pedigree finisher on Cena and pick up an easy pin.

Kevin Federline

If you are a fan of Britney Spears, you may remember Kevin Federline. He was most well-known as Mr. Britney Spears who was always trying to find a way to stretch his dubious fame out a little more. These attempts included a failed rap album. So it probably comes as no surprise that he would jump at the opportunity to appear on Raw.

Mr. Britney Spears

He made his appearance in October of 2006, and John Cena talked some smack before eventually dropping Federline to the mat. He also appeared on Rawon New Year’s Day 2007. Federline and Cena faced off, which saw interference from Umaga on Federline’s behalf, but Cena returned later in the broadcast and beat down Federline.

Lawrence Taylor versus Bam Bam Bigelow

Think back – all the way to 1995 -Following a loss at 1995’sRoyal Rumble. There was a distinctive moment between an embarrassed Bam Bam Bigelow who pushed NFL great Lawrence Taylor, when Taylor was laughing from his ringside seat. This moment was the set up a WrestleMania 11match between the two.

Getting Pushy

Taylor brought out fellow gridiron stars like Reggie White and Carl Banks to aid him and Bigelow’s cohorts included Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Corporation, including King Kong Bondy and Nikolai Volkoff. The contest ended when Lawrence Taylor pinning Bam Bam Bigelow. This matchup is notable because it actually received a decent amount of press at a time when the then-WWF’s popularity was starting to wane.

Drew Carey

During 2001’sRoyal Rumble, Vince McMahon thought Drew Carey was hitting on his TV-mistress Trish Stratus backstage during the show. Obviously, this was all part of a created storyline and this led to McMahon wielding his power to make the comedian enter the Rumble. Do you remember how this match-up ended up?

Carey Rumbles

Actually, it seemed relatively uneventful. Drew Carey stood around watching others fight and then he was nearly choke-slammed by Kane. Thanks to an intervening Raven, he narrowly escaped and then eliminated himself. Carey later became one of the most ridiculed members of WWE’s Hall of Fame Celebrity Wing. This was a pretty sad appearance!

Mike Tyson Scuffles with Steve Austin

Mike Tyson pretty much represents the entire world of boxing so if you love wrestling, you probably have an acute appreciation for Mike Tyson. But we’ll set the scene for this showdown: It was 1998. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin had just won theRoyal Rumble, setting up a championship match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 14.

Mike Tyson

The night after the Rumble, Vince McMahon brought Mike Tyson to the ring. Tyson was introduced him as the “Special Guest Enforcer” and Austin stormed the ring. He objected to Tyson’s involvement in the wrestling world as a boxer and for claiming to be the baddest man on the planet. After some scuffling, the two sides had to be restrained.

David Arquette and Courteney Cox

David Arquette and Courteney Cox were a pretty well-loved couple from the late 90s and early 2000s, which was during and after Cox’s very popular role as Monica on Friends. David Arquette has also had some pretty memorable roles in films like Never Been Kissed and Scream and the popular TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

A Bit Random

So how did they end up on Wrestlemania? If you don’t remember, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise; this appearance on Wrestlemania 32 is actually noted as one of the most awkward celebrity appearances of all time. There was even a surprise appearance from Kurt Russell! It was a pretty random episode.

Macaulay Culkin

Macaulay Culkin began acting at the age of four. In 1989, he starred inUncle Buck, which made him a breakout star. He then landed the leading role in Home Alone and Home Alone 2 and those roles grew his stardom exponentially. Culkin has and probably always will be a beloved child star.

No Longer Home Alone

If you are a fan of Macaulay Culkin or WrestleMania then you probably remember that one time Culkin helped Hornswoggle prank his rival Chavo Guerrero. And a fun fact is “Hornswoggle” actually means “to get the better of someone” so there’s your irony in this situation! If you don’t remember, Google can help. There are several videos available of this memorable Wrestlemania moment.

Floyd Mayweather

Back in 2008, Big Show returned for No Way Out after spending several months away from WWE to recover from injuries. While Big Show hyped himself in the ring, he went after Mysterio, which prompted the friend of the diminutive luchador, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr., to come to his aid.

The Brass-Knuckled Punch

As the match up began, Big Show dropped to his knees and invited Floyd to give him his best shot. The resulting flurry of punches bloodied Show’s nose and set up a No Disqualification match forWrestleMania 24. Mayweather took full advantage of the No Disqualification stipulation and was smacking Show several times in the head with a steel chair. The final blow was a final, brass-knuckled punch that knocked out Big Show.

Chris Jericho and the Apes

It all startedwhen Chris Jericho was constantly insulting Stephanie McMahon. And as you probably know, you don’t mess with Stephanie McMahon because she is the boss’s daughter. So of course this harassing exchange ended up causing problems and strangely included the Apes from Planet of the Apes.

Planet of the Apes

In order to get the crowd hyped, these exchanges reached a bizarre and (for many) annoying level. People randomly appearing dressed in ape suits can get pretty old pretty fast. This whole scheme was to promote Tim Burton’sPlanet of the Apes remake. In the end, the apes present Jericho with a gift for Steph, a pie that he plants on her face, but the whole show was an utter disappointment.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump has a long relationship with WWE. Trump Plaza “hosted”WrestleMania 4 and 5, butin reality, the events were held in the adjacent Atlantic City Convention Hall and a supposed rivalry developed by 2007. Trump dropped cash onto ecstatic fans during Raw. Vince dubbed WrestleMania 23 the “Battle of the Billionaires.”

Battle of the Billionaires

But the truth is, neither wrestled. Instead, they were represented by Bobby Lashley (Trump) and Umaga (McMahon) and the losing billionaire would have his head shaved in the center of the ring. Lashley picked up the victory and Trump then gleefully shaved Vince’s head as Austin held his boss down. Anyone could have guess that the yelling, cotton-haired, orange man wouldn’t ever let his head get shaved.

Mickey Rourke

Don’t call it a comeback! Mickey Rourke, who was amidst a Hollywood comeback, was riding out the critical acclaim for The Wrestler. But for some reason, during a red carpet interview on Extra, Rourke decided to challenge Chris Jericho to a wrestling match. A few days later, they both appeared on Larry King Live where Rourke downplayed his remarks and Jericho seemed intent on having the match.

One Punch

Although the challenge came fromMickey Rourke, he ended up sitting ringside at WrestleMania 25. Jericho took on legends Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, and Jimmy Snuka in a handicap match. Afterward, Jericho forced Rourke into the ring, who quickly knocked out Jericho with a punch. The live audience loved it!

The Muppets

Oh, The Muppets! Many of us grew up watching The Muppets and it is hard to believe these puppets would appear on a wrestling show. But it was all a part of their comeback 2011 movie. As a means for promoting The Muppet Movie, they appeared on that year’s Halloween edition of Raw.

Creative Puppetry

Did you watch what happened?Kermit and Miss Piggy got into a verbal altercation with Vickie Guerrero and Jack Swagger. It started with Hornswoggle flirting with Miss Piggy, which made Swagger and Dolph Ziggler attack Gonzo, and Sheamus protected Beaker from a threatening Christian. A little bit strange but none the less, pretty entertaining.

Grumpy Cat

Grumpy Cat (real name Tardar Sauce) is an internet celebrity; actually, she is more like an internet phenomenon. She has inspired an uncountable number of memes based on the fact that feline dwarfism makes her face look permanently frowned. This cat landed a Lifetime original movieGrumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, Grumpy hosted a November 2014 episode of Raw.

Tardar Sauce

Obviously, there wasn’t any wrestling for this grumpy cat. But she did get to interact withWWE superstars, taking selfies with her and carrying on one-sided conversations. It’s pretty unclear as to how this cat’s presence was supposed to generate any more viewership; Grumpy cat’s appearance basically fell flat and fans of Raw were unimpressed.

Ben Stiller

And finally, if you wanted an awkward appearance, you certainly got it during Ben Stiller’s surprise appearance. In July of 1999, Stiller appeared on an episode of Raw. He was in town to promote his movie Mystery Men when Jeff Jarrett invited him into the ring. What happened next was so awkward, many fans couldn’t watch.

Stiller was unable to keep his eyes off Debra, Jarrett’s stunning manager. He was able to sneak in an extended plug for his new superhero flick but when the actor went too far with his compliments for Debra, he found himself in a Figure-Four Leglock. What did you think of this painfully awkward exchange?

Maria Menounos Jumps into the Ring

Broadcast journalist of Today, Access Hollywood, and Extra is a huge fan of WWE, and decided that she couldn’t just watch the competition, she wanted to be a part of the action. She began her time with WWE as a guest host in 2009, and as part of the diva tag team matches. She’s made several appearances, defeating Phoenix twice, and Eve. She’s also hosted the WWE Hall of Fame and the rep carpet pre-show.

Pamela Anderson is Also a Fan of WWE

The Baywatch babe made an appearance on WWE (then WWF) at the Royal Rumble in 1995. She made another appearance in April of that year, accompanying Diesel, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. On the opposite side, Jenny McCarthy supported Shawn Michaels, the Royal Rumble winner. Diesel ended up winning the match and walked away with both ladies on his arms.
