This year marked the 70th year anniversary of Adolph Hitler’s death. One of the evilest and reviled people ever to live, his limitless capacity for shocking acts of cruelty still amazes and fascinates us. Here are a few fast facts you might not know about the Führer
A Meatless Existence
This claim isn’t proven either way, but many believe that Hitler was a vegetarian, at least in later years. A huge dog lover, he allegedly was “often distressed by images of animal cruelty and suffering.” He didn’t drink or smoke, either.
He Loved Disney
This isn’t really surprising considering that Walt Disney has always been rumored to be an anti-Semite (though a new documentary found ample evidence to the contrary). But Hitler’s affinity for Disney films was tied to his love of animation, not shared personal values or matching ‘staches. He supposedly watched Snow White and King Kong frequently.
He Was an Early Advocate for Novelty Adult Toys
Well, not quite, but according to records, Hitler ordered blow-up dolls for his troops during a widespread syphilis outbreak. Blonde and blue-eyed, of course. The soldiers later refused to carry the dolls in their backpacks for fear of embarrassment if captured by enemy forces.
He Was Fond of Bull Semen
Hitler had a very low sex drive, which his doctor remedied with “virility injections” extracted from the prostates of young bulls. The Führer would inject himself before spending the night with then-girlfriend Eva Braun.
He May Have Had a Sexual Relationship with His Niece
Geli Raubal was Hitler’s half-niece. The two had a very close relationship, which many believe was sexual in nature. One of Hitler’s biographers calls Raubal “his great love, a tabooed love of Tristan moods and tragic sentimentality.” She was discovered dead, next to one of Hitler’s guns, in 1931. The cause of death was ruled suicide but many questioned whether Hitler played a hand in the death.
He Was a Cokehead
Hitler’s personal medical records show that the Führer “extensively” treated his sinuses and throat with cocaine. The drug was procured for him by his physician Theodor Morrell. Cocaine certainly causes paranoia — could this be a contributing factor to his decline into insanity?
He Was Quite Gassy
Hitler is rumored to have been a frequent farter. From the time he reached 40, he suffered “violent bouts of farting, along with alternate bouts of diarrhea and constipation.” Some say that the constant farting led him to adopt a vegetarian diet, and others say that the diet led to more gas. Either way, not a pretty thing to think about.
He Once Had a Crush on a Jewish Girl
Hitler was enamored with a local Jewish girl named Stefanie Isak when he was 16. He even had a friend stalk her for him and provide reports of her daily activities.
He was, however, too frightened to ever speak to her. In a later interview, Stefanie said that she “once received a letter from someone who said they were to attend the Academy of Arts and that I should wait for him.”
His Skull Is Still a Mystery
When Hitler was found dead on April 30, 1945, a piece of hisT skull fragment was secretly preserved for decades by Soviet intelligence. However, in 2009 American scientists claimed to have proven that the skull belonged not to Hitler, but to an unknown woman under the age of 40.
Hitler Was a Target 42 Times
There were at least 42 times that someone tried to assassinate Hitler! Clearly, none worked but you see how he ended up ending himself, so maybe he got the picture. The most known of these attacks was Operation Valkyrie when Claus von Stauffenberg tried to finish him and regain control of Germany.
His Nephew Played for the Wrong Team
We learned about his niece earlier but was going on with his nephew? Apparently, William Patrick Hitler was in the U.S. Navy. He supposedly worked with his uncle for some time and many thought that was just a war tactic. He was imprisoned by the Soviet Union and died while held captive.
He Dropped Out
Interestingly enough, Hitler never made it through high school. He was tired of being told what to do and just had an overall lack of interest in school. He was really only interested in war and arts (as we discussed earlier). The dropout became on of the strongest powers ever.
Hitler, the Priest
When Hitler was 14, a priest lent him a helping hand and that influenced him as well as changed. So much so that he thought he wanted to ascend higher than a priest, actually. He wanted to be a god. Which explains his unbelievable deeds in a twisted way.
He Wanted to Put Moscow under Water
Hitler was a mastermind for all things malicious. He had a nasty plan for Moscow, one that involved water. He wanted to turn Moscow into a huge lake. He planned to make it an artificial lake by opening the Moscow-Volga Canal. He also had the same plans for other places like Warsaw and Poland.
Hitler Was a Chocoholic
Hitler had a fond obsession with chocolate! This man would eat up to two pounds a day. He was in love with hot chocolate that had extra whipped cream. The way to his good side was through his heart. His sweet tooth was insane. He would put tons of sugar in his tea and wine.
He Couldn’t Drive
For someone with so much power, you would think that he would know how to drive! You would never see Hitler driving. He never went to take to take a driving test. Probably just figured that he would have others drive him around because he was so in charge.
In Love with the Circus
Could he have been in love with the circus because he could relate to the freaks? We had to throw that joke out there. Hitler just took joy in the freaks and lowlifes putting their lives on the line just to please him. That’s some reason to appreciate something.
He Loved Opera
Such a cultured type of music. You wouldn’t expect a man of evil to be so into opera. Someone close to him said that if Hitler would start to talk about Opera then no one would interrupt him (we wouldn’t interrupt him ordinarily). If any of the young Nazis that Hitler was recruiting could sing or play an instrument, they were approved right away.
Hitler was opposed to deodorant, aftershave and just about all things that gave him a good scent. For some reason, he just didn’t want to smell good. We are not 100 percent sure but because he didn’t like people seeing him naked, chances are he didn’t bathe regularly either.
Art School Reject
Hitler was an aspiring painter. He produced hundreds of works and sold them to make a living while he was in Vienna from 1908-1913. He applied to art school twice but was rejected both times. His mother was dying of breast cancer during this time, so it’s safe to assume that the art school rejections hit him pretty hard. Some even speculate that Hitler’s rejection from art college helped shape his character in later years.
