This is a photo of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife, Sophie, who was the duchess of Hohenberg. They’re shown here in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, moments before both were assassinated. Their murder led Serbia’s allies to declare war on each other, precipitating the beginning of World War I.
