More details…

The two actually met long before they ever teamed up on the Andy Griffith show. Their friendship actually began years earlier when they met as co-stars in the 1958 film adaptation of the Broadway play No Time for Sergeants. Their friendship was the stuff of legend and they remained close for the rest of their lives. Andy was even with Don at his bedside when Don passed away in 2006, which is definitely tribute to how true their friendship must have been. Andy followed his friend not too long after, and died six years later, at the age of 86.
