On January 3, 2019, Surviving R. Kelly premiered on Lifetime. Now that the documentary is out and the people having a chance to catch up on the highly questionable life the R&B singer lives, many are regretting having worked with the singer.
If you haven’t had a chance to catch the show, it tackles rumors of abuse, predatory behavior, and pedophilia. Someone whom many believed to be one of the greatest to grace R&B, is now nothing more than someone people mistakenly misjudged.
Lady Gaga is one of the recent artists to step up and apologize for working with the musical menace.
“I stand behind these women 1000%, believe them, know they are suffering and in pain, and feel strongly that their voices should be heard and taken seriously,” Gaga posted to her Twitter. She even went as far as to say she is removing the song she and Kelly worked on “off of iTunes and other streaming platforms.”
Indie pop band, Phoenix from Versailles, France, also chimed in on the matter. “We regret that we were not both more informed and more discerning when we worked with him previously. We fully support all victims of sexual abuse, and it’s our hope that there will be a path to justice.”
Some might not know, but many do, and it’s that one of Kelly’s many nicknames is the Pied Piper. The Pied Piper would lure away children from the town of Hamelin. How’s that for some foreshadowing? Chance the Rapper added, “I apologize to all of his survivors for working with him and for taking so long to speak out.”
