Every food establishment has their secrets and some can be dirty, of course, but you should/will be pleasantly surprised by the secret confessions we found submitted by actual Chipotle employees. Compared to horrifying secrets we have found out about Del Taco, Carl’s Jr., Taco Bell, McDonald’s and Burger King in the past, Chipotle comes up almost entirely squeaky clean.

From worst nightmares to everyday obstacles, employees share everything you never knew about the food, business and coping mechanisms that are often developed within the industry.
Welcome to the world of working at Chipotle! Take a peek inside…
They Give More Food To Attractive People

As if this is a surprise, most times in life good looks will get you ahead and Chipotle is no exception. On the Whisper app, Chipotle employees have fully admitted to over serving to customers they find attractive in hopes that they will remember them. Long gone are the days that you can show up to this establishment with baggy clothes, a sweatshirt and your “comfortable” shoes.
Just kidding! But, it doesn’t hurt to get some perks with your food, does it? Maybe throw on an extra layer of mascara or your new shirt and flirt your way to more fajita meat with the semi-attractive guy or girl behind the glass at your local Chipotle.
They’re Trying To Get Healthy Meat

Although you are already getting fresh and healthy ingredients compared to most eating establishments, Chipotle is still in the works of becoming completely exclusive with free-range, grass-fed and hormone-free meat. Apparently, the demand for beef at the chains surpasses the amount that they can realistically acquire from free-range places so they are still working on making this possible.
According to a Buzzfeed article, “Chipotle doesn’t do all of its own cooking: Two outside processing companies in Chicago, OSI, and Miniat Holdings, braise the carnitas and barbacoa, trim the steaks, cook the beans, and make the bases for the restaurant’s green and red tomatillo salsas, all according to Chipotle’s specifications.”
Their Secret To Fresh Tortilla Chips
Just like any authentic Mexican restaurant known for their fresh chips, Chipotle is well known for putting “love” into them. The secret to their chips is that not only are they made fresh every single day, but they even come uncooked and are carefully fried each day.
After they are fried, they are carefully caressed with sweet and savory lime and a hint of sea salt that makes the flavor always stick out with each bite. Lime is easily the greatest secret behind the chain that is utilized in all food products giving them that extra delicious and fresh taste you always crave when you think of Chipotle.
You Get More Food In The Bowls Vs. Burritos

A huge secret that employees often keep to themselves to reduce the portions and the amount of effort put in, is that you get more contents in a bowl than you do in a burrito. Although a burrito seems more enticing than a bowl following a rough night out or the comfort of the next morning hangover, bowls definitely provide consumers more room for food.
However, an even bigger secret that employees keep to themselves is that you can order a bowl and free tortillas on the side at no extra charge! So, if you are really craving a burrito but have a larger appetite than usual, help yourself to a bowl with tortillas on the side.
The Food Really Is Made Fresh Every Day
Unlike fast food chains that keep food sitting on the grill all night and throw it in the microwave upon your in-line or drive-thru request, Chipotle actually is fresh. The contents are prepared every single morning from 8-11 AM before they open and are almost never pre-mixed or pre-cut.
The chicken and beef are prepared daily so you know that you are getting fresh and delicious meat that makes the burritos, bowls and tacos so unbelievably delicious. All fast food restaurants maintain the falsification that they prepare their food daily with the healthiest ingredients, but Chipotle remains one of the only chains that sticks to their word; this makes it a lot easier for employees to enjoy what they are offering the public.
The New Button Secret Will Save You Money
So, check this out. The next time you find yourself walking up to a Chipotle line just after you paid your rent, ask for the “new button.” Requesting this entitles you to pick only 3 or less ingredients total on whatever you choose and will save you money at the end of the line! If you are interested in a bowl with only beef, cheese and rice, you would refer to this as a “beef new button.”
Same thing goes with chicken and whatever else your heart desires! We promise that you will impress any Chipotle employee by uttering the words “new button” and they will love you for creating less work for them.
The Secret Honey Chipotle Vinaigrette
Although the fresh sour cream, differing temperatures of salsa and delicious lime-infused guac all make Chipotle the great place that it is, sometimes you just want something different. Introducing the real secret menu’s honey Chipotle vinaigrette! This incredible topping is concocted of vinegar, honey, salt, water, adobo sauce, cumin, garlic powder, oregano, and pepper and is guaranteed to send your taste buds on the test drive of their lives!
Drizzled across the chicken bowl, hovering over the divine quesarito, or even simply used as a dipping sauce for the freshly limed Chipotle chips, this vinaigrette is sure to be your new favorite!
They Laugh At Customer In Line Selfies
This may not be a secret, but they can see you. They can see you deciphering between snap chat filters as you ponder what to devour while pursing your lips for a duck face selfie on your Instagram story. Although they find this amusing to some extent, it gets a little old to those that are missing their ability to lead their own social lives outside of the establishment.
Do yourself a favor and either be more discrete or neglect to take dumb pictures of yourself in line, especially when you are holding it up! Good lord, they just want to get you what you want and through the line so they can get on with their lives. Lol.
They Can Tell Who The Stoned Customers Are
It is not out of the ordinary for people to toke up and annihilate some of the healthiest burritos or chicken bowls on the planet, but you are not fooling anyone. As you’re zoning out into whatever dimension you think you’re in, they are patiently waiting for you to come back to Earth to order already. Those silly giggles shared with friends over the discomfort of silence are giving you away, by the way.
Yes, Chipotle is delicious when consumed under any substances, but control yourselves when inside if you can! The recent legalization (at least in California and other states) is only going to grow their impatience more, so good luck to you employees!
There Are No Limitations On Sides!
Despite what it may seem with the extra 40 cents they charge for guacamole, sides at Chipotle are actually free! Do not confuse the word sides with the guacamole, any of the meat or fajitas however, these are not part of the option just to be clear. Despite the looks on their faces, you can actually order two sides of beans and rice, and sides of salsa, cheese, 3 tortillas, and so on.
P.S.- As if this wasn’t already implied, however, the nicer and more polite you are to the employees the more likely they are to accommodate your “extra” wishes. Do not be surprised if you are turned down after displaying attitude, it definitely happens and they love to do it.
They Know When You Get Soda Instead Of Water
Although we think we are being sly by getting a water cup and sneaking soda in it, they know. Oh they know, and they don’t say anything but they definitely take a mental note and you become classified in that “liar” category when you visit the same location.
Don’t for one second think that clear sodas like Sprite or even lemonade are fooling anyone by the way. Despite how busy they are serving the never-ending line, they can see your friend standing in the way as you sneak that Coca-Cola in your cup. Just spring for the extra few cents and get the soda cup, don’t be that person.
You Can Ask For Cilantro-Free Rice
Although cilantro is actually one of the healthiest things we can ingest, you can actually get plain white rice that is cilantro-free! Basically considered a part of the secret menu since it needs to be heated upon request, a lot of customers do not know that they have this option. Considering it is virtually tasteless, it is not surprising that a decent portion of picky consumers prefer their rice “cilantro-free,” hence the option existing in the first place.
Trust us, those that know about the “uncontaminated” grain definitely take advantage so keep it in mind. But, is also important to know that cilantro is a good source of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and oils that help to reduce our cholesterol levels.
They Hate Customers That Complain About Food Running Out
Joe Raedle/Getty Images
Considering there is only so much food that is prepared per day, to ensure it is the freshest it can be, they can actually run out of what you want. And although they feel awful and lose money when they tell you they don’t have something, do your best to be gracious and find compromises on the menu.
So often customers will sit there and complain about not getting what they want and there is literally nothing the employees can do about it. Also, keep in mind that the more moaning you do, the less likely they are to hook you up with other options that might sound good!
They Have To Give Us Small Meat Portions
Chris Hondros/Getty Images
Even though it looks like they are being stingy when it comes to meal portions, they are strictly instructed to serve portions like this by their managers. Considering the food is prepared daily, as we mentioned above, there is only so much meat and ingredients available so the customers are told to limit the amount they give out.
They can even get fired for over-serving against regulations, so really they are just trying to keep their jobs at the end of the day. You can always pay extra for more meat, which they will be happy to give you but it obviously comes at an additional cost.
They Loathe Customers That Order The Quesarito
Ah, the quesarito. The delicious secret menu item that gives the typical, generic Chipotle burrito a scrumptious twist with melted cheese encompassing the heavenly folds of their fresh, warm tortillas. Sounds amazing right? Well, here’s a secret. Employees absolutely HATE making this for customers because not only does it complicate the careful and thought out fluidity of the line, it’s extremely tough to roll up.
The cheese is hot and they are normally used to dealing with a room temperature meal, so this is at the top of their list of food they hate to make for you; they actually dread hearing these words.
They Know When Customers Lie About Their Order To Save Money
This one makes no sense, you should always be truthful about what you get when it comes to the end of the line. Although it is possible to fool the register employee easily at Chipotle, you should obviously not try to do it.
Just like the soda in the water cup, they’re not stupid. And, most likely, they are friends or at least comfortable with each other in line so it is not unheard of to get called out in this situation. Good luck visiting that same location after getting put on blast by the way, you might as well find yourself another Chipotle after that.
They Hate Parents That Let Their Kids Order
Oh man, do they hate when you try to let your kids order for themselves! Kids are so indecisive and as if we weren’t bad enough ourselves, they are constantly changing their still developing minds. It also complicates things when they don’t know the words for the food they want and expect you to understand and get them the right thing.
God forbid you grab the wrong topping and experience a full-blown tantrum in line, which does happen, sadly. Parents, ask your kids what they want ahead of time and order for them, come on give them a break!
They Give You Stuff You Don’t Want If You Annoy Them
Unfortunately for employees, there are extremely rude customers and they have to deal with them. But, at Chipotle they have their ways of coping with mistreatment in the form of giving you ingredients you don’t want just to piss you off.
This actually seems to be their favorite way of getting even with the attitudes that are brought into the establishments because they can easily just say they “thought that’s what you wanted,” knowing it wasn’t. Granted you will come back in line after taking a bite of a burrito that has beans when you specifically asked for them, but at that point, they don’t care that much.
They Don’t Care About Your Dietary Restrictions
What does this look like? An upscale, gourmet restaurant with personalized options catered to your every dietary restriction or preference? This is Chipotle, man. Although it’s a healthy alternative to greasy burritos, it’s not Heaven- or is it?
They don’t care if you’re gluten-free, lactose intolerant or whatever the heck else we have come up with over the years. You are responsible for knowing your own edible limits well before you step foot in line and you should be able to create an order based on those specifications without their help. Put on your “big boy pants” and figure it out, please!
The next slide shows some employees really don’t care…
Chipotle Brooklyn Is Making The Rats Obese
Robert Nickelsberg/Getty Images
Residents and business owners of Brooklyn are outraged at the Chipotle location on Court Street. The complaints began in 2017 when people saw employees recklessly throwing the restaurant’s trash out onto the street. But that’s not the worst problem, because rats are worse than that. Yep, numerous complaints were filed in the city of New York about rat infestation within the Brooklyn Chipotle location.
And when the employees set the garbage out on the street in front of the restaurant, rats continually tear into it, spilling food waste and trash all over the city streets. And now the rats are getting really, really big. The New York Post spoke with Peter Bray of the Brooklyn Heights Association. He said, “The rats are gorging themselves. Chipotle piles the trash bags several feet high at the curb. It’s a field day for rats.”
