Sam Shepard met Jessica Lange on the set of Frances in 1982. The two actors began having an affair even though Lange was dating Mikhail Baryshnikov at the time (I’m noticing a trend here). Their physical romance turned into love and the pair had a daughter in 1985 and a son in 1987.

Although they broke up in 2009, they didn’t announce their split until 2011. Shepard praised Lange’s honesty and good nature until his death in 2017. Following their breakup, Shepard said of Lange, “she’s the only woman I could live with. Who could live with me! What other woman would put up with me?”
