Maddox Chivan is Angelina’s first child, whom she adopted from an orphanage in Battambang, Cambodia. Only a month after she applied to adopt, the U.S. banned adoptions from the country, due to a high rate of child trafficking.

However, she was able to finalize the adoption and take Maddox to the U.S. in 2002. Angelina was married to Billy Bob when she adopted Maddox but had sole custody.
