Jolie’s mother brought them back to Los Angeles after spending five years in New York, and she enrolled in Beverly Hills High School. She didn’t fit in with the rich kids, and she was teased by other students. She didn’t come from the same money they did, and kids picked on her for her distinctive features, for being extremely thin, and for wearing glasses and braces.

As a teen, Jolie was experimenting and trying to find herself. She tried herself at modeling. Her first attempts proved unsuccessful. She started to cut herself. Jolie said, “For some reason, the ritual of having cut myself and feeling the pain, maybe feeling alive, feeling some kind of release, it was somehow therapeutic to me.”
