“Hot Lips” Loretta Swit

You look at that face, and you know that’s Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan of M*A*S*H fame. Of course, her name off-screen was (and is) Loretta Swit, and her co-stars brought to the TV screen that funny, haphazard, even crazy-insane view of war. But, she also was a strong female character. As Swit says of Houlihan, “She was a raging feminist working in a man’s world and being her own person. Being strong and having integrity.” She was a role model, somebody that women could look up to. For that role, she won two Emmy Awards, but she also went on to guest star in a number of other films and TV shows. And, of course, she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989.
