The hypocritical, short-tempered, energetic, gum-chewing gym teacher was none other than Keegan-Michael Key. He’s the stereotype of a high school gym teacher who is one of the main protagonists of the sketches. Like most teachers, he easily becomes upset by disruptive behavior.

Coach Hines goes as far as threatening to kill and injure people who display that behavior. But ironically, he’s far more disruptive than the students he threatens. Outside of his neglectful childhood, he was known for a high leg in the air and comedic foils with students like Joseph Yamanashi.
