Michael McDonald joined the show during the fourth season. He would remain on the show until the end of the thirteenth season, making him the longest-tenured cast member. While on the show, McDonald developed many memorable characters and was a contributing writer/director.

Before McDonald came on, Aries Spears joined the cast during the third season. He would leave at the end of the 10th season, appearing on 198 episodes, making him the second longest-serving cast member on the show behind McDonald. Spears did impressions of Jay-Z, LL Cool J, and Eddie Murphy.
