Bobcat Goldthwait Set His Chair On Fire
Jay Leno’s interview with comedian Bobcat Goldthwait took place on May 9, 1994, and came with a completely unexpected outcome. The comic purposely set his guest chair on fire in protest of the cancellation of The Arsenio Hall Show.
Goldthwait was later fined over $3,000 to cover the cost of the damage to the chair and was required to make several public service announcements about fire safety. Fans of the show thought Goldthwait had been banished from appearing on The Tonight Show, but Leno brought him back a week later.
