Fargo was a great film that starts with the text that says “THIS IS A TRUE STORY” indicating that the events of the film happened in Minnesota in 1987. In reality, Joel and Ethan loosely based the script on actual events and formulated the events before and after it.
In an interview with Huffington Post, the pair finally revealed their inspirations for the Oscar-nominated flick. Two little elements in the story were based on actual events. One of them who a guy in their sixties who was gumming up serial numbers for vars and defrauding the General Motors Finance Corporation. Basically, there was no murders or kidnapping, but, there was a murder in Connecticut, so there’s that.
