The Formula One flick generated some great reviews. Yet, it’s full of historical exaggerations that’s as big as a racetrack, especially the way James Hunt and Niki Lauda are portrayed as bitter rivals. In reality, they were actually good friends, having shared an apartment once.

A few of the film’s raving events unfolded much differently in real life — Hunt never beating up a reporter and Lauda’s wife’s shock at his disfigurement after his horrific accident was over the top. But hey, stirring the pot always makes things interesting, even if they aren’t true, right?

The portrayal of Mickey Ward’s sisters in another Oscar-nominated movie proved to be controversial.
