The movie with Denzel Washington where he flies a plane upside down is epic, but it’s a movie “inspired by true events” which makes the scene fake. Hollywood basically means that nothing in Flight resembles anything that happened in real life after all.

Screenwriter John Gatins took inspiration from the Alaska Airline Flight 261 crash in 2002. The whole aircraft scene where he flies the plane upside down sets in motion the plot of the rest of the movie. In turn, he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Oh, and the real-life crash failed in the attempt to fly the plane upside down.
