Tom Hanks played the part of Captain Richard Phillips in the 2013 movie about the 2009 hijacking of the Maersk Alabama vessel by Somali pirates. Phillips is a hero in the movie, but one crew member didn’t think of him as heroic at all.

Apparently, Phillips ignored safety protocols that stated ships should stay at least 600 miles away from the Somalia coast to avoid any pirates. Phillips was more than half that distance away. One crew member, Chief Engineer Mike Perry, only had a small role in the movie, but played a big part in real life when he helped the crew barricaded themselves in the lower levels of the boat as pirates raided above.
