The film 21 was inspired by the Blackjack Team of MIT and was based on the book Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. Once the screenplay was written it was clear that there would be a few changes made to the film that didn’t happen in real life.

For one, in real life, the team was made up of Asian college students. But the crew in charge of casting chose mostly white characters instead. Also, spoiler alert, the chemistry between Ben and Jill didn’t happen. The latter may be forgivable but the former is not.
