Horror films are always eerier when the viewer believes that they’re based on a true story. The Fourth Kind was one of those films. While the plot on the screen depicts travelers disappearing in Alaska and leads the viewer to believe that aliens might be responsible, in reality, it was far less exciting.

While there were, in fact, travelers in Nome, Alaska that disappeared, the FBI made the determination that aliens were not the cause. In fact, it was the travelers’ own misfortunes that led them to their death: a combination of drinking too much alcohol and not being prepared for the frigid temperatures of Alaska.
