Open Water was one of those it-could-happen-to-me films that really make you think twice about things. In this case, going on a dive tour. Yes, it’s true that two scuba divers were left behind near Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. However, since they perished, detectives can only look for clues they found to piece together what actually happened.

So, in contrast to what the film shows, there was no indication that sharks had come around the couple, as it appears they removed their scuba gear to relieve some weight and heat and actually survived through the night in the open water. It appears they died from exhaustion and drowning.
