Movies That Were ‘Based On A True Story’, But Apparently, That Was A Lie
The Last King Of Scotland

The Last King Of Scotland/Fox Searchlight Pictures
The story of Idi Amin’s relationship with Dr. Nicholas Garrigan doesn’t worry about the facts. Garrigan was a character created for the film. He was loosely based on British soldier Bob Astles, a friend of the dictator.
Played by James McAvoy, Garrigan spends the film learning how corrupt and violet Amin is. He decides to escape Uganda to help save people from the horrors he witnessed. In the film, he barely gets away on a plane. In real life, Astles was caught and thrown in a Ugandan prison.
