The original found footage movie, The Blair Witch Project was a smash hit when it came out. After watching the film, audiences were convinced it was a true story. It was filmed documentary style, after all! The movie studio advertised it as a true story, tricking moviegoers even further.

The true story is there is nothing real about The Blair Witch Project. All the success the movie found resulted from brilliant advertising lying to prospective ticket buyers. The sequel was filmed traditionally and flopped when released.
