The Amityville Horror

One of the greatest horror films of the 1970s, The Amityville sells its audience on false claims of truth. Adapted from a book about a family moving into a haunted house, the movie took things to a gruesome extreme.
The backstory about Ronald DeFeo murdering people at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York is true. Jay Anson, the author of the book, says he exaggerated the events that came after. Families who have lived in the house claim to have weird experiences, but nothing inspiring murder.
