Rob Reiner was originally going to play a band member in the film. He decided to play the fictional director Marty Di Bergi after Harry Shearer told him he didn’t look good in Spandex.
In 2009, Shearer, Guest, and McKean went back on the road to perform Spinal Tap songs sans Spandex (or wigs, or even a drum kit).
