In 1984, Peter Jest booked the Tap at the UWM Ballroom. He promised the band that if he ever opened a club in Milwaukee it would be named Shank Hall. On the day of the 1984 concert, the student art department made a Stonehenge for the show. That Stonehenge is still at Shank Hall, the club that Jest did manage to open in 1989.

Jest says that the Stonehenge has become the club’s trademark, although some people still ask why there’s a pi sign above the stage. Read on to learn which director had an opportunity to direct Spinal Tap, but turned it down.
