KISS vocalist and bassist Gene Simmons has said that a lot of the film was based on his band and that he once experienced a moment much like the “Hello, Cleveland!” scene. KISS was playing in a theater and their dressing room was on the fourth floor. They went down to the first floor and found nothing, then to the second floor and found nothing. They could hear themselves being introduced and eventually made it to the third floor to perform their concert.

Many other bands also report getting lost backstage, such as Blink 182 and Belle and Sebastian.
