Harry Shearer, who played Derek Smalls in Spinal Tap, went on to become one of the main voice actors on The Simpsons. He provides voices for Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, and many other characters.

In “The Otto Show,” the 22nd episode of The Simpsons‘ third season, Bart decides to become a rock star after attending a Spinal Tap concert. Guest and McKean guest star in the episode alongside Shearer. The episode received positive reviews and MovieFreak.com named it one of the stand-out episodes of the third season.
