A number of critics who normally rank movies on a one to ten scale have changed their rating system to pay homage to the famous “up to eleven” scene in Spinal Tap. The Internet Movie Database’s ranking for This Is Spinal Tap goes up to eleven, although there is still an option to rank the movie out of ten.

This Is Spinal Tap is the only DVD (or piece of media in general) to receive an eleven out of ten rating on IGN. The scene was also used in news reports about Jim Marshall’s death in 2012. Jim Marshall was the businessman and pioneer behind the amplifier company featured in the scene.
