The band Spinal Tap’s fictional history includes a succession of drummers, all of whom are said to have died in strange circumstances. One died in a “bizarre gardening accident,” another choked on vomit, but not his own vomit. Two spontaneously combusted on stage.

The instability of Spinal Tap’s drummer position inspired Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling to write a similar situation for the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers at Hogwarts. All of the Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers in the series leave their job (due to strange circumstances) before the end of the school year.
