Don Knotts received three Emmys before he departed “The Andy Griffith Show”. After leaving in 1965, Knotts signed a deal with Universal Studios, as he thought the show was ending. After five seasons as one of the main characters, Barney Fife, Knotts departed.

But because of pressure from the network, Andy Griffith kept the show going for three more seasons. Knotts would make guest appearances in the following seasons, earning two more Emmy’s. Don Knotts would later state that he deeply regretted having to exit “The Andy Griffith Show”.
