Shocking Facts About Don Knotts
The Astro-Knotts
As mentioned earlier, Don Knotts did not go to the moon. The closest he ever came to doing so was in 1967’s The Reluctant Astronaut. Directed and produced by Edward J. Montagne, Jr. Knotts stars as Roy Fleming, a 35 year-old man-child, carnival ride operator. Roy’s father Arbuckle, wants his son to amount to something memorable, so he sends an application to NASA.

Roy Fleming gets accepted as a “WB-1074” and eventually gets sent to space. The Reluctant Astronaut, like his prior feature film The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, also received decent reviews by critics and viewers.
