His Death

After three marriages and a highly successful acting career, Don Knotts passed away on February 24, 2006. Knotts was 81 when he died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California from pulmonary and respiratory issues related to lung cancer. He had been undergoing treatment for months prior to his ultimate demise.

In 2011, his grave’s headstone was replaced with a bronze plaque which displays several of Knotts’ characters from throughout his career. Even after Knotts’ death, he is still considered an inspiration to other actors. He is survived by his two children, Thomas and Karen Knotts.
