Shocking Things You Never Knew About The Golden Girls

Excuse Me — Do You Speak Norwegian?

Rose is supposed to be speaking “Norwegian” on the show but Betty White actually just adlibs a bunch of gibberish in real life. When seen with subtitles it adds an entirely new level of humor to the TV series. With her accent and pronunciation, the lines come off as genuine.

Translation: total gibberish

Rose’s character had some other quirky yet hilarious traits.

Betty White seems to be pretty good at faking her way through speaking in Norweigan, as she did it many times throughout the series. English-speaking fans who weren’t familiar with real Norweigan could easily been duped by the funny-sounding words that White uttered. Rose also had some ridiculous one-liners in English, such as “My mother always used to say: ‘The older you get, the better you get, unless you’re a banana,’” “That moose not only raised little Yimminy, he put him through medical school,” and the ironic “Norwegians are notoriously bad at Spanish.” Fun fact: “I love The Golden Girls” roughly translates to “Jeg elsker The Golden Girls” in Norweigan.
