That stroke apparently made it hard for her to control the things she was saying. It was a simple but effective tool that allowed them to get a few easy laughs.

Producers would not have wanted to taint the other characters’ personas by having them utter anything that the public might deem too offensive. But Sophia’s “stroke” and subsequent memory loss gave them free reign to give her off-color lines. Sophia frequently spouted one-liners like “sluts just heal quicker” and “bow it out your ditty bag” as well as longer commentary such as “I always wondered why blessings wear disguises.
