Alexander wasn’t the only one who hated Ross. It seemed like most artists hated the painter. In the art world, Ross was as famous as Warhol, but definitely not as liked. Sculptor Kieth Frank told The New York Times that Ross’s artwork was “formulaic and thoughtless” while artist Richard Pousette-Dart said Bob Ross was “just commercial exploiters, non-artists teaching other non-artists.”

Some art supply stores even began stocking Ross’s products in what they referred to as the “happy little corner” of the store, so as not to enrage other artists. Haters gonna hate.
