He Was Inspired By Artist Bill Alexander

After shaking off the abstract-loving air force artists, Ross went looking for other inspiration. He stumbled upon German artist Bill Alexander, who was basically the original Bob Ross. Alexander had a show that aired on PBS called The Magic of Oil Painting.

Ross went to study under Alexander, eventually being taught Ross’s famous wet-on-wet technique. After Alexander retired, he requested that Ross take over teaching his art classes. Ross hit the road and began traveling America, teaching people Alexander’s wet-on-wet technique.
