Many would think that after getting his own television show, that he’d be rolling in cash, but Ross actually received no salary from The Joy Of Painting. Ross recorded all the episodes for free and PBS maintained all proceeds from the show. Instead, Ross made his income entirely off Bob Ross Inc.

Under Bob Ross Inc., he sold art supplies, how-to video cassettes, and taught classes around the world. Basically, Ross used The Joy Of Painting as free advertisement. It worked out pretty well, with Bob Ross Inc. estimated to be worth $6 million.
