Dad Notes That Remind Us Life Is Too Short To Always Take Seriously

I'm 110% sure that my wife wishes I would stop joking around all the time and act serious with my kids. I'm sure of this fact because she constantly tells me to stop acting like a child and to take parenting more seriously. My guy friends with children say they get the same lecture on a regular basis from their partners.

The truth is, dad humor is an unstoppable force of nature that can't be reasoned with. It's in our genes and dammit we are going to spread our love of a bad pun, silly note, or ridiculous lesson. These dads prove my point by completely nailing every single note they left for their children.

Note From A Hungry Dad

dad-notes-3

Come on dad you have got to be kidding me. I'm assuming you probably already ate the other half of this sandwich and then took a bite out of the half you were sending off to school with your child.

Perhaps this dad was just making sure his sandwich was just of the highest quality possible. Nah, he was just hungry and lazy. This dad won't make the same mistake twice... probably.

Always Read The Label

I have exactly zero desire to ever learn what Vagisil tastes like and this dad was probably under the same thought process until he made a horrible mistake.

It does look like toothpaste, dad, but it clearly has the word "Vagisil" written in large lettering on the front of the tube.

Meet Mike, The Apple.

This apple is named Mike, it was given that name because it has become part of the family.

Tim was taking the apple to work every day only to return it to the refrigerator at the end of the day. Tim's dad recognized his weird behavior and left this funny dad note in response.

It Took Longer To Write This Note

The truth is, dad probably didn't want to know what he just kicked under his child's bed.

It probably took him longer to find paper and a marker to write this note than it would have to simply look under the bed and make a discovery. This was all about making a point.

How Did This Even Happen?

I'm baffled at how much dryer lint was pulled out by this dad. I love the dad's message that reads:

When I grow up I'm going to be a dryer fire!" It's a true statement and warning written in a really funny way. This has all the elements of being the perfect dad note.

Dad Logic At Its Finest

You can get food out of the refrigerator or you can starve or eat a cat. This is dad logic at its best or worst depending on your perspective.

In reality, this is a dad's way of telling their kid to figure it out on their own and not rely on an adult to tell them how to survive. I just hope their kid didn't eat the cat.

Feed Me!

The best dad notes rely on circumstance to tell a store. This toilet paper dispenser is very hungry because a child in the home didn't put a new role on when they finished with the old one.

It's a story as old as toilet paper and this dad isn't having it. At least he has a sense of humor about his child's laziness.

A Dad Note For Quenching A Child's Hunger

Maybe it's because I refuse to fully grow up but I would probably have the same reaction as a child if my dad left this note.

I might know more than I did as a child but that doesn't mean I have to accept this form of cruel reality when hurled in my direction.

A Dad Lesson With Warning

Teaching our children to grow up and mature is a huge part of parenting. Rather than throwing his child into the labor force, this dad started with a simple message: "I left the crusts on. Today is the first day of the rest of your life."

I bet an argument ensued after his kid opened up their lunch and found the crust still on their bread.

The Least Convincing Dad Note Ever

No condiments? No mention of special bread? This is the type of dad note I would personally leave if I realized we only had two end pieces of bread left and a single slice of bologna.

I have a feeling this dad was trying to make light of a horrible tasting situation.

Horrifying Dad Wisdom In Note Form

Here's a fun tip, the worst thing a parent can say to a child is, "there is no monster under your bed." Instead, you should say, "there are no such things as monsters."

This dad, on the other hand, decided to freak his kids out even more. He also spelled burglar wrong so perhaps his kids should be more worried about a grammar nazi showing up under their bed.

A Dad Created Booby Trap

I like this dad note for a few reasons. First, my kids often overlook things right in front of their faces. Second, if they overlook this note they end up with markers all over the place.

Third, it's a total dad move to realize they messed up then but go with the flow regardless of what they just discovered.

Way To Set Those High Standards Dad

This dad probably gave his son the most straight to the point sex talk of all time. I actually admire his ability to speak candidly with his kid.

If mom and dad end up raising an unexpected child at least they should have seen it coming based on this dad's note.

Eat This Sandwich Or It Will Never Stop Existing

This dad has had enough of their child bringing home the same sandwich every day, only to pack it again and watch it return.

If Liam Neeson won't get them to eat their lunch there is probably no hope for this sandwich, which is probably already riddled with germs at this point.

A Friendly Reminder Of What You Did To Dad

Imagine opening the refrigerator only to find this note left behind by your dad. As you grow older you realize it wasn't a joke so much as a prophecy for your own future with kids.

At least dad is broadcasting the drinking problem his kids gave him instead of hiding in a pantry with a bottle of wine - I'm looking at you mom.

Baby Fight Club Is Totally A Real Thing

This dad left his wife a funny note about their child's fingernails being too long. It's true that a child's nails can do real damage.

This is a catch-22: you can trim their nails to protect their face but then they lose an offensive tool during actual baby fight club. I call that a dad dilemma.

Bender Has Warned You

This dad has some awesome artistic skills and he's applied them to hilarious effect. If you won't listen to Bender then maybe you don't deserve to have a lunch packed for you - meatball!

Even when getting right to the point dads have a funny way to interject their own hilarious style to their notes.

You're As Out As Our Supply Of OJ And Bread

This dad wrote a rare note that is both supporting and hilarious at the same time.

After overhearing his son, Nate, tell a friend he was about to come out to his parents, this dad wrote, "bring home OJ and bread after class, we are out, like you now." Well played dad, well played indeed.

Comparing Dad And Mom Notes

Mom wants you to stay safe and comfortable while dad wants you to avoid the thug life on your vacation.

I don't know if this dad would have written a different letter for a daughter but he pretty much nailed many of the things that really needed to be said.

Think Of The Unicorns

Mom will tell you to eat your sandwich because it's good for you and she spent time making it.

Dad takes a more direct approach by threatening to have unicorns killed if you don't eat the sandwich that was sent to school with you. This was harsh but probably effective.

Dad Is Probably Leaving These Notes On Purpose

A Reddit user pointed out that their dad is always leaving short but misspelled notes all over the house. Their kid takes the time to leave funny photo-based responses.

I think this dad is a genius and realizes they can misspell words in order to get their child involved in acknowledging the notes.

Diesel. Diesel. Diesel

dad-notes-22
ADVERTISEMENT

I applaud this dad's ability to say Diesel so many times in a very short note. From my personal experience, the best way to get a child to acknowledge something is through repetition.

There is still a very high probability that Sarah ended up putting in regular unleaded gas in the car after reading this note. Sigh.

Dad Lessons 101

When your dad has given up on hands-on lessons he may leave you a note like this one.

Either he doesn't want to waste more time on the lessons you didn't really listen to or he thinks your finally smart enough to figure out solutions to basic problems on your very own.

Well That Took An Unexpected Turn

I'm most worried about how this kid is going to die if they're not nice to the dog. Is it a mean dog? Is there a booby trap set for not following dad's instructions?

When it comes to getting right to the point we can always rely on our dad to say exactly what pops into their head, for better or worse.

Well That Was Brutally Honest

Speaking from experience I'm willing to bet this dad left notes for all of his kids and claimed they were the favorite among their parents.

Playing your children off one another might sound mean but it's also an effective tool for getting them to acknowledge the letter you left for them. Just be warned, this could backfire and lead to some really awkward dinner conversation.

That's A Lot Of Trust

The guilt trip game is strong with this dad. He doesn't bother to ask his kid to do anything, instead, he implies that doing the right thing is the best option.

If you can get your children to do something without explicitly asking them, you have achieved a greater level of parenting than most people will experience.

The Ultimate Guilt Trip... Death

Grandma could die any day now! Even if she seems to be in good health. Call her immediately or you could end up regretting it for the rest of your love, love dad.

This is the type of mind games dad can play when he wants to get a point across. I laughed just at the absurdity steeps in truth.

This Is What Happens When Dad Is Bored

Sometimes dads leave notes for their kids just because they have nothing better to do and they THINK they've come up with the funniest dad note of all time.

In reality? The notes are usually worth a smirk but not really a ROFL moment. We applaud this dad for his sheer corniness.

Direct And To The Point But Not Really At All

Is this dad proclaiming his love for garbanzo soup? Asking his kid to pick some up on their way home? It's a very direct note and hilariously taped to a car door handle but it leaves more questions than answers.

At least we know dad was thinking about garbanzo soup when he wrote this not-so-well-thought-out note.

It's Not Rocket Science

If I was this dad I would have just said, "here is the remote control, figure it out or play a board game or read a book.

I laughed when I saw this because dads have a tendency to make things way more complicated than they need to be and to prove they have technological smarts over something that is incredibly easy to operate. He's probably lost when using an iPhone or Chromebook.

Thanks For Making This Weird Dad

I would totally leave a note for my kids telling them to push their dirty laundry in the laundry basket. What I wouldn't do was add a creepy P.S. message that says "I'm watching you" followed by a mean looking frowny face.

Sadly, I see a lot of examples where dads like to go just a little bit too far with their dad note skills.

This Dad's 'You'll Shoot Your Eye Out' Moment

It turns out the famous but overdramatic "you'll shoot your eye out" moment in A Christmas Story is a practice utilized by dads for other means.

The whole "you'll burn to a crisp" might be a valid statement but it's still funny. I love that this dad signed the message as "The Management."

This Dad's Round Of Golf Has Been Destroyed By Real Love

Dads are not always the best at saying I love you outside of the actual words, "I love you" — but this dad found a way. His note was perfectly normal until he proclaimed, "You made my day!! Even better than a really good round of golf!!"

If that isn't parental love I give up on life.

Eat It!

If your dad isn't much of a talker you may have found notes around the house that mimic this one. It might be to the point but it also says everything that needs to be said.

I particularly like the "Yes, you" part of the note. This could be focused on one child or multiple kids and the note still works. Well played, dad.

Dad Notes Are Pretty Direct Sometimes

A simple "please let the dog out and make sure he does all his business" would have sufficed but this dad wanted to make sure his daughter, Tammy, understood the exact potty practices of the family pet.

Dads really have no filter when leaving notes, I'm just surprised he said, "number 2" and not something inappropriate like I would have written.

Well That Was Unexpected

I don't know if this was supposed to be some type of metaphor because I've never had an LCMs Split Stix Yoghurt. Either way, dads are sometimes a little bit too much to the point when they leave notes - case in point.

At least the truth is now out there and a hopefully delicious snack break followed.

The Geekiest Dad Note I Could Find

I'm already in love with this dad's note because he's a geek like me and we have to stick together, it's nerd law. He lost me a little bit with the Buzz Lightyear reference but I'll let it go because he found Zelda mints so his kid could play Zelda.

Dad's don't always have a goal with their notes and when they do sometimes it's just silly nonsense which is even better in my opinion.

This isn't the first time Liam Neeson has appeared on our list and that's because he's awesome and his monologue from Taken is perfect for setting up a dad joke.

Although, this isn't a joke because dad has confiscated internet access until his kids get done their chores and report back to him.

It's easy to see how much technology has started to dominate our lives by looking at all the dad notes that hold WiFi passwords hostage in exchange for finishing chores that need to be done.

The Internet is changing our perceptions of reality and dads are helping to ensure some work gets done during that change.
