Presidential Holiday Parties Throughout History

The Ultimate Gingerbread House

As the years continue to pass, the holiday season continues to get more and more elaborate and expensive. For example, in 2009, the White House’s pastry chef planned a gingerbread house to beat all others. The edible house weighed in at an incredible 390 pounds and required the use of a bandsaw for its construction. The tradition started in 1969 with a mere 16 pounds of gingerbread and six pounds of icing.

Now we know exactly where our taxpayer’s money goes. Making 400-pound gingerbread houses and getting a ton of Christmas trees. Christmas, the holiday for giving.

The Party Never Stops

The Obamas are well-known for throwing huge parties and spending excessive amounts of money on their guests. For example, the October 2009 Indian dinner cost $487,168.86 or $1,485 per person and the Obamas’ May 2010 Mexican dinner price tag was $969,793.92 and was attended by 200 people at a cost of $4,770 each. Those must have been some tasty dinners! What a generous family.

Actions like that are why Obama is the people’s champion. He may not be the most liked president but he is personable and a well liked person. His political choices were the only thing in question.
