It seems like every week there's some new challenge going around on the internet. In early 2019, the "Momo challenge" caught the attention of some, but it quickly died down. Thankfully, now we have a challenge that brings worth.

Have you heard of #trashtag yet? A challenge that went viral over the weekend of March 9, it asks participants to share pictures of themselves picking up trash at parks, on streets, and at beaches. The idea has been around for some years now, with one company promoting the concept way back in 2015 to help protect threatened wilderness. Four years later and users across Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram finally got the picture. Folks share the before and after photos and show the vast difference their cleaning made.

One couple posted a photo of themselves on the beach with bags filled with junk. Their caption read, "Standup Paddle boarding and cleaning up trash in the ocean off Kata Beach in Phuket, Thailand."

It looks like the wave hit other countries as well and isn't limited to only America. Many people who posted pictures also explained why something like #trashtag is so vital in protecting natural landscapes. Instagram user @codyleehanson wrote, "It's the only outdoors we have. We all use it for many different things, but it is the only one we have. So let’s all do our part and treat it with respect. Let’s pick up after ourselves and then pick up extra."
