Costa Concordia: Crew’s Worst Nightmare
In 2012, the worst fear of crew and passengers alike happened to the ship Costa Concordia. The ship was based in Italy and capsized and sank after hitting a rock off the coast of Tuscany. Thirty-three people were killed, the majority being passengers and one crew member. An additional sixty-four people were injured in the subsequent on board chaos.

More details…
The captain and crew had engaged in a series of errors including not holding a lifeboat evacuation drill, as is accustomed aboard all cruise liners. It was later revealed that the captain, Francesco Schettino, had engaged in conduct unbecoming of a captain. He also claimed to have slipped off the ship and “fallen” into a lifeboat when it turned over. It’s images like this that make some people extremely uneasy and unlikely to book a cruise. Public Affairs for the cruise lines have their work cut out for them when images like the one above emerge.
