They call it the “Pippa Effect.” Whenever Kate Middleton’s younger sister Pippa desires something, everyone else follows suit. In 2011, word got out that Pippa Middleton enjoyed eating sushi, as did tennis player Andy Murray, who enjoys up to 50 pieces at a time.

Because of Pippa, sushi sales in the United Kingdom have gone up 21 percent within a year. The British supermarket Tesco, which sells a wide range of ready-to-eat items, noticed that their pre-prepared sushi had begun to outsell typical go-to British snack fare, such as sandwiches with cheese, pickles, and salad. As if the Middleton’s weren’t already influential enough, it wouldn’t be the first time someone in their family had made something popular.
